Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXIX
Now that Oladipo has recovered his form with time removed from injury, Myles' lack of offense is less troublesome for Indiana, also Oladipo will probably make around the same money (20-21 million annually) which Indiana can comfortably fit as a salary and stay under the tax. Will need to monitor that situation up to the deadline to see how Pacers fans would feel about Turner at that point, but so far they look good.
Bryants offense has annoyed me more than his defense. He's a spaz and has that Andray Blatche/Javale McGee era wizards stupidity gene. With that said, if you swapped Myles and Bryant today you still wouldn't escape the insanity of Brooks' rotations and the disaster that is Ish Smith.
I suggest holding off on any kind of Bryant moves until the deadline and look for an immediate solution to getting value for Ish and Robin Lopez.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXIX
Bryant rebounded better before Westbrook became a Wizard. Beal had more assists last season. Troy Brown Jr had a different role. All three players are still the same but roster changes are having a ripple effect.
The reality is role has a lot to do with performance. Lack of familiarity and deferring are throwing some players off. When I see Sacramento, Atlanta, and Minnesota starting out 2-0 and with all kinds of balanced offense, defense, shot distribution and with YOUNG GUYS LEADING The WAY I get so frustrated with the Wizards. Beal and Westbrook might not be world beaters...I don’t see it yet.
Leonsis is happy with viewer ratings. Seems oblivious to the myriad problems the Wizards have. Westbrook is 32 and seems to be misfiring. It’s way too early to say this but I’m afraid the Wizards might really regret trading Wall for Westbrook.

Essentially Jr. for Jr. with others balancing the deal.
I like the idea for us, but I don't think Chicago does it. It'll leave them with too big of a hole at starting center.
Would they consider Bryant for Carter? Would we? (The deal would probably have to be something like Bryant + Neto for Carter + Temple.)
Chicago was respectable defensively last year (12th) while being awful offensively (27th). A stretch 5 like Bryant might help unlock Coby White.
Carter has shown flashes of being a good defensive center, and at age 21, should continue to get better.

"...Jarrett Allen... (Coach Steve) Nash said he is sure there’s a lucrative deal in the 22-year-old’s future. 'I haven’t talked to him about that,' Nash said. 'We’re focused on the season. He has a bright future. He’s going to have a big contract whenever the time is. ...The guy was unbelievable [Friday]. He was good in the first half, he was special in the second half. … Defensively, protecting the rim, loose balls, rebounding at both ends, he was outstanding. We’re proud of him and he’s continuing and improving at this stage of his career.'"
CCJ was the first to point to Jarrett Allen -- as the guy we could have (& should have) picked had not Ernie traded away our 2017 R1 pick to hide his idiotic error in signing Nicholson a few months earlier. That got me interested in him, & looking at video & numbers made it obvious he was a great, great prospect, likely to be one of the top 3-4 players out of that draft (though he was taken #22).
I've been pushing for us to try to trade for him, but it's too late now.

I don't see a net gain in Carter over Bryant, though it's a fair point that he's only 21. He might wind up the better player.

I kinda feel like he'll be in Otto Porter "no mans' land" as a free agent. He is a very good player, but there will be a lot of teams bidding on him and he will end up signing a very lucrative deal. Ultimately, it may be a situation where a good player is being paid All-Star money and winds up being somewhat of a negative asset.
Centers are tricky. You either want an elite one like Jokic or Davis on a max deal, or you want a bargain basement guy who is rock solid on the court but underrated enough to be signed cheaply (guys like Holmes, Baynes, Ibaka, etc.). The troublesome ones are guys like Myles Turner, DeAndre Jordan, and Stephen Adams who are pretty good, but not worth their contract. Jarrett Allen may soon be one of them.

An undrafted rookie, he started the season very hot from the 3-point line. That went away quickly, leaving him as a slightly sub-par scorer who's also below average in everything else.
Obviously, he was a rookie, so it's a little extreme simply to write him off. At the same time, Nunn is 25 years old; it's likely that what you see is what you get.
I don't really care about Nunn. You could leave him and Neto out of it and my stance wouldn't change. I'm doing the trade for Herro, Precious, and the 1st. Obviously, I'd like it even more if Robinson was included....
Got it. I'd do it in a minute if Robinson were included. But... not happening.

Agreed. That train departed already. I was toying in my head with ways to trade for him but, even if Brooklyn was interested, I don’t think we could afford to pay him what he wants next season (+$20 mn/yr).
I think the Carter Jr trade may be worth considering. He is having a bad start to the season, so the timing could be right. He is much better than Bryant defensively and I still believe he has the potential to be a Horford light player offensively.

An interesting & very relevant take, nate.
Of course, you'd be happy to have "an elite one" and/or "a bargain basement guy... underrated enough to be signed cheaply" at every position -- preferably one of each! -- but your point still stands on its particulars for the C position.
One problem is that it is extremely difficult to get anyone to recognize guys in that second class (good, underrated, cheap). Christian Wood might be the textbook example. Ivica Zubac, Tony Bradley, Poeltl, Noel, & even Thomas Bryant (available free!) are others. Which is, obviously, why they're cheap!

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXIX
Bruno Fernando hasn't gotten much of an opportunity with the Hawks, and they just drafted Okongwu. We can probably get him for a 2nd rounder, Send them Paseckniks for salary match ? He could be a guy, like Bryant, change of scenery and finding a better fit can give him a chance to show what he can do.

Maybe the Hawks would like to find out what Pasecniks can do? After all, he was a R1 pick not that long ago. They could give us a R2 pick for him. Send Bruno Fernando as a salary match?
No? You don't think so?
Similarly, I wouldn't be interested in giving a R2 pick to find out what Bruno Fernando can do.
edit: don't get me wrong, if they were to cut Fernando, I'd be happy to give him a look. But... they won't. His salary is guaranteed this year & next. That's enough reason not to trade for him.

Good points... Maybe Hawks do Bruno for Pasecsniks straight up? It gets the salary off their books when Pasekniks contract guarantee is up in January I think.
Okongwu is out first few games with a foot injury, once he's ready they'll have no need for Bruno. Maybe we can send them Gil?
Regardless, Bruno Fernando could be a low risk move that pays off, like Bryant, Wagner, Bonga, Robinson. If nothing else, he's immediately the best rebounding big on our roster.

Tony Bradley's probably available for peanuts - he was traded twice for peanuts in the offseason, and he hasn't played at all this season - behind Embiid and Howard.

Anyone know anything about this guy Justin Patton? Former 1st round pick (#16 2017) was just waived by Milwaukee. 6-11 center averaged 2.8 blocks last season in Gleague.

I’d grab Patton. At least kick the tires.
Remember him well from his one season in the Big East. Thought he’d be a star in the NBA. Was a mid-first round pick. Not sure why it hasn’t worked out for him in the pros.

Seems worth a look! Check out those videos I posted, nice size and seems pretty skilled. Taken well ahead of Pasecsniks in the same draft & he's 2 years younger.

Ruzious has mentioned Patton at least a half dozen times as someone we should acquire.
Maybe we should hire him as head coach?
