He certainly had a lot of fans here. Welp

Knicks apparently needed Noel/Burks/Rivers a LOT more. :D

Many guys wanted Christian Wood to be the PF here but for me his best position is really playing the 5.

Once we drafted Obi, he made so much sense. Plus the FO seems low on Mitch.

FA happened before the draft though, right?

Still, on Obi/Wood frontcourt would be fun.

I'll acknowledge last year's Mitch the better defender than Wood, but the offensive versatility Wood/Obi would have been great.

I bet the Knicks FO told themselves this tale:

We need to say ALL the money for two max cats. It's going to happen. WWW is connected.
Obi plays a lot like Wood (lol) and if we can land Obi, it's nearly the same!

This got covered before, but the Knicks could have signed Wood and Bog Bog, and even adding in a couple million extra for each, as a "Knicks tax", once the off season came and Knicks renounced Randle/Frank/DSJr etc etc, they'd STILL money for a lower tier max cat - I think between 25 and 30 million.

Also, it's arguable that if the Knicks signed Woods, they could have passed on Obi.

With Obi

Quickley\Whatever
Bog Bog\Burks
RJ\Knox
Obi (Randle - who cares)
Wood\Mitch

I'm not even saying it's a playoff team, even in the east. But at least it would be a decent basketball team.

I just added up 3 guys who were nearly 14 million, which is what Wood is getting per year.

I wouldn't have had an issue with the Knicks going Wood and then addressing their horrific guard rotation with two guys who resemble NBA guards.

I'd assume the Hawks are either willing to give it another year of his development/team control, or would look to put this player in a trade for a BETTER player, but is it possible the Hawks would entertain:

Cam Reddish for Frank Ntilikina.

Don't turn it into Frank bashathon. Both players have busted relative to their draft position.

Hawks have Hunter/Huerter/Bog Bog ahead of him in the rotation.

Then again, they already added Snell/Dunn as backup guards who'll bring some defense.
I guess, never mind.

Thought maybe a change of scenery\Cam reunited with RJ might work for both players.

The Hawks are starting Cam and giving him solid mins... even having Gallo come off the bench largely because of him.

I believe many Hawks fans are as protective of Cam as some are of Mitch over here.

Also, it didn't exactly work for Reddish when he and RJ were together the first time, so I'm not sure what the hope is in "reuniting" them.

They would never do that regardless of the depth they have at that position. They aren’t busts in comparison to their draft position, Reddish underperformed since college and fell in the draft because of it. Frank was honestly never good and doesn’t have Reddish type talent or potential. Frank would get bashed less if people didn’t equate his value to Cam Reddish like you’re suggesting in this trade. The Hawks could simply wait for the Knicks not to re sign Ntilikina and pick him up for league minimum when he becomes a free agent this season.

Yeah, a realistic Frank swap looks more like Little+Simons than any of Reddish/Hunter/Huerter.

No way I was suggesting Hunter or Huerter, who look like future pieces for the Hawks, while I'm not sure Reddish is really in their plans.

Other than to move him at some point.

And someone mentioned "Oh, they play him over Gallo".

Gallo is hurt and also is a pure PF at this point in his career.

A couple Portland fans from the trade board thought it made sense when a fan of some other team suggested it :dontknow:

Their organization seems to view that trio similarly, and though (at least) one will ultimately end up trade bait, none are players they seem in any rush to get rid of. Basically, I don't think any of them will be available for a prospect swap but any of them could be available in a trade that consolidates some of their pieces into a clear upgrade...and which ones they'd be willing to move would depend on that upgrade.

So unless we're selling RJ or Julius becomes a perennial Allstar contender...or we can weasel our way into a 3 team deal that gets them someone like Beal...we don't have the right kind of bait to steal any of their young wings.

Fair enough, if he breaks through this season then yeah, that would remove him from Frank consideration. But it's still early and they may have just wanted to see if he's progressed enough to make an impact, before going to the tried-n-true :dontknow:

My point wasn't those specific kids, it was that a Frank return would be other kids who have struggled to become rotational pieces for their teams so far but might still have potential because of how raw they were when drafted. Not a kid like Reddish who is already a solid rotational piece and still has a lot of room for growth.

Am still happy with the new and improved Randle though

I find it pretty cool that you keep rooting for him. He seems like an okay dude simply judging by his demeanor and temperament. He's just not a fit here.

Yeah I know he’s not the perfect fit here. We gotta trade him cause we got Obi. But it’s nice seeing Randle play better under Thibs. I liked him a lot when he was on the Pelicans/Lakers. Idk what Fiz did to him but I’m glad he’s back to how he used to be. He’ll be good for a contender.

I'd agree with that.

I mean, I know Hunter was best available, and Huerter a good value pick where they got him, but the Hawks, to me, sent a message not unlike the one Frank is getting, where they made a point of running out and signing a guard/SF in Bog Bog. Then again, they may view him like Knox, like a real 3/4 year project.
