Re: Fantasy Trade Thread: 2020 Offseason
If Fertita is going to be unreasonable and ask for all those picks and young players, we might as well pivot to McCollum.
McCollum is a fantastic #1 perimeter option to play off of an elite post player like Embiid. McCollum can play both on and off therefore he'll always be maximizing Embiid.
We might even get to keep picks and young creators, too.
Major upgrade.

Not for Ben, but for Tobias ++? Sure. Only problem is they have Melo, RoCo, and Collins, so there's no room for Tobias there. Thybulle would definitely have to be included as well.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

Hard pass on Harris for POR

Do you have an alert set on this thread for any time someone brings up Tobias for McCollum?

Sorry don’t agree at all, that McCollum is a number one option on any team.
He’s certainly not on Portland. And would definitely not be on the Sixers either.
McCollum IMO is one of the most overrated players in the nba.
McCollum is a good player on an average team nothing more.

No, though it may seem that way.
This subject comes up from time to time on this forum but not the POR forum.

If we were offered a king's ransom for Ben Simmons (ie CJ, picks, swaps), I feel like we'd have to do it. Especially since CJ is the type of player that pairs excellently with Embiid.
I think the only downside would be having to potentially deal with POR in the Finals since Ben is a nice fit with Lillard: covers his defensive assignments, pass first who likes to hand around the rim in halfcourt sets, provides a great fast break option. RoCo, Ben, Lillard, Nurkic, and one of Hood, Simons, or Trent is an unbelievable defensive starting five with arguably the best scorer in the league.

Unless you're then flipping all those picks for a star, it seems like you'd just be pulling yourself in 2 separate directions. Not like CJ/Jo can afford to wait on those picks to come to fruition. I also think it makes you worse right now.

Not really, you're allowed to make personnel moves that fit the team while also having consideration for your future. I'd honestly rather do that trade than Ben + a bunch of assets for Harden.

Would you want Tony Parker as a #1 option on any team?
Would you want Manu Ginoboli as a #1 option on any team?
Hell no.
The point is, once you have a hall of fame post player, you just need a creation core. You don't need the best perimeter options in the league, you just need a group of creators, period. Preferably guys that can play both on and off. McCollum, Milton, and Maxey is a very optimistic creation core to put with Embiid. McCollum/Embiid are an easy championship threat.

Hard pass on Ben for CJ + whatever. McCollum is crazy overrated. CJ + Embiid is a guaranteed ticket to mediocrity.

I don't really think he fits better with this roster without making more moves, and certainly makes the team worse.

McCollum
Shake/Curry/(possibly Thybulle)
Green
Tobias
Embiid
That's better than what we have tbh. Unfortunately we're married to Tobias, but the fit with the rest would make McCollum and Embiid 25 ppg scorers without sacrificing too much defense.

Re: Fantasy Trade Thread: 2020 Offseason
C.J. is a perennial top 25 scorer in this league with fantastic shotcreating abilities and near elite on/off ball shooting. What are we talking about? Of course he'd make this team better and he fit seamlessly onto this roster.
We're giddy over a marginal talent like Shake Milton whenever we get to see him with the ball in his hands. Imagine a guy like C.J. making plays on the ball.

Come on, Milton and Maxey havent proven anything in the league. Even if they turn into something (not a star though in all likelihood) it will take years until you can trust them in the postseason. People tend to overrate young players every year. Last year it was Korkmaz, Thybylle now its Maxey and Shake. Stringing together a few good games because you hit your shots and no one has a scouting report on you is not that uncommon.

That post was not intended to elevate Milton and Maxey, it was to stress the importance of having a stable of guys that can create.
McCollum/Embiid would be an incredible duo.

Disagree. CJ's specialty of midrange shooting with mediocre playmaking, not drawing fouls, and not shooting enough 3's is not a recipe for major success.
His value to us is only as a complement to Ben and Jo. Trading Ben for CJ makes us worse now and in the future.

Yeah honestly it would have to be like centered around Green and Scott’s contracts with then including 2 young pieces like mattise and either shake or maxey. Financial flexibility for Portland and prospects.

You're swapping out one of the better defenders in the league for a bad one, you'd be losing quite a bit on that end IMO. Also losing out on all that other stuff Ben provides (transition game, rebounding, passing)... The stuff that a lot of people tend to overlook because of what he can't do.
CJ would be a nice 3rd guy with Ben and Jo. He's a sub All Star level player though, not going to far with him as your #2.

Re: Fantasy Trade Thread: 2020 Offseason
I think we get some diminishing returns on Ben being one of the best defenders in the league when his half court offense is dribbling it into the lane, picking up the dribble, and waiting for someone to get open. He's never going to completely shut down the stars in the playoffs as we've already seen.
I'm actually not a "we need to trade Ben now" guy, but the trade was attaching a bunch of picks and swaps to deal. I know that's down the road and not of interest to many on the board, but that would be one 30+ year old Lillard injury away from a top 10 pick and another chance at keeping this train rolling.
