We are also one Tatum bank shot away from being 2-1.

Unless we do make a trade for Harden, I think we just have to wait a while and see how things go. Teague and TT look good. The rookie looks good- could be a rotation player. It would be nice to get someone on the bench better than Grant and Semi but that might be hard to do. Any ring chasers are going to pick a few teams before us. Maybe we can use the TPE.

The fix is we get back our All Star PG back. Shocker that we aren't quite as elite when we are missing our 2nd or 3rd best player and playing a journeyman like Teague in place of him.

The one tangible fix I would like to see is Tatum getting back to attacking the rim. 4 FTAs in 3 games is extremely concerning. We need him at 6-8 per game like he was getting to in the 2nd half of last year and the playoffs.

The players basically go in four buckets:

1. Tatum, Walker, Smart & Brown. That is not a white-shoe law firm. Instead, it's a group of guys who are hoped to be one of the very best foursomes in the league. If they aren't, then the Celtics don't have a chance of competing for a championship. And with Kemba sidelined and Tatum not on fire, they aren't.

2. Thompson, Theis and Timelord. We need two of those to play well in any given game. Given that each has had injury issues, we therefore probably need all three to play well when healthy over the season.

So if Ainge trades Theis mid-season, either he's throwing in the towel for this year, or he's getting a center back, or he's very confident in backup centers like Grant ... or he's being reckless.

And that's even before we consider lineups where two of them play at once.

3. Grant & Semi. We need at least one of them to play well. Grant is intelligent; if he stays confused-looking for long, there's a problem.

4. Everybody else. Brad is experimenting with the perimeter players, and perhaps developing one or more young ones. He should be.

1. Go to Brown more in crunch time rather than Tatum iso three pointers.
2. Give all of Teague's time to Pritchard.
3. Give all of G. Williams' time to R. Williams.

Tatum needs to attempt more bank shots.

Honestly, IMO the defense is a way bigger issue than the offense. We are legitimately awful on defense.

Yeah this is the record we deserve. That miss evened out the bank shot.

This season is just NUTS already.

Cavs are 3-0. Orlando is 3-0. Indy is 3-0 (this is less surprising I guess).

Nets lost to the Hornets, who were on a B2B after losing to the **** Thunder. Bucks got BLOWN OUT by the KNICKS!! Sixers got throttled by Cleveland. Raptors are 0-2, losing to two non-playoff teams.

We should absolutely be very concerned with how we look on both ends, but apparently the Cavs are winning the title now so

The pro’s:

-Brown absolutely leveled up. His improved passing vision is much needed

-Smart is playing under control

-Time Lord is healthy

The con’s:

-Tatum completely stopped attacking the basket and stopped passing the ball. He was awesome at both in the bubble. Needs to get back to being that guy

-Grant Williams looks out of shape to me. Tired of seeing our undersized 4’s continue to trend this way. Team needs to look at itself and realize theyre doing something wrong— this **** doesnt happen in Miami.

-Theis looks pretty bad. Dont think he’s recovered from his surgery.

-Stevens cant keep playing two big lineups. I mean, between this and our jumper heavy offense, its like watching Jim O’Brien all over again

-Danny needs to add some talent.

Worst Opponent FG% in the league— 52%. Its almost as if playing two bigs in a switch heavy scheme is a terrible **** idea

We need to stop Doug McDermott from getting to the rim at will.

The two big lineup did work against the Bucks because Giannis always puts his head down against us and goes to the rim. But it didn't work vs Brooklyn and it should've been better against Indy than it was.

Indy plays two bigs so it should've been fine matchup wise.

I think you're right about Tatum. He needs to go back and watch tape from the bubble and be much more aggressive going to the hoop. I feel like at this point in his career he gets frustrated easily when he doesn't get calls and then avoids contact. He's at this best when he's attacking and forcing the defense to adjust which opens up shots for others and ultimately himself. He works so hard to get shots off that picking up another 6-7 points from the line would help his offense so much.

I also wonder if after all of the pre-season hype, signing the massive extension etc and everyone calling him the next superstar weighs on him. Feels the need to be that guy and is putting extra pressure etc on himself.

I hope he figures it out soon because the success of the season really comes down to have far he can take them.

I think its simpler than that— he’s just a slow starter and this has been the trend for years now. Takes him a bit to ramp up and adjust.

Has definitely been a surprising early start to the season. Cavs undefeated, Kings playing surprisingly well, Toronto and Denver winless. Dallas only win coming against the Clippers where they had them down by as many as 50!

I feel like playing without fans is somewhat of an equalizer to some degree.

Agree. This is also why I'm not worried about making big changes in a hurry: they will be better on defense with this group.

Smart and Jaylen especially are overrated on defense. Jaylen is a legit negative on D.

FIX the Celtics thread.

Post#40 » by jfs1000d » Mon Dec 28, 2020 6:35 pm

This board is getting annoying. Not every loss is evidence the team sucks.

We lost Hayward and Kemba, 37 PPG there. What did y’all expect?

Long term, team is fine, but we have had too much talent exodus last 2 year. Only way we are a top 2 team in the east is if Tatum becomes a playmaker. We really miss Hayward’s skills and kemba’s shot making.

The people who are whining now are the same ones who didn’t want Hayward and think Kemba isn’t good.
