He might have really supplanted my guy Ayton as the Suns’ second most important young player.

Ayton seems a bit lost in the new offense but his defense is still real good. CP3 was mentioning he has to do a better job getting Ayton touches. I think Ayton will be fine.

Shouldnt make long term judgements on kids based on their earlier play

The NBA has a long season and these guys careers last years. A lot of time

I agree with the general point but I'm not sure it applies to Knox or Ntilikina

In his third year, Sabonis averaged 14.1 points per game on .590 TS% plus 9.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

And Ingram averaged 18.3 points per game on .555 TS% plus 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

These guys were ballers by their third year. They improved every year since they entered the league, whereas the careers of Knox and Frank have stalled. They have not been on an upwards trajectory at all. But I think Frank deserves to play by default, and while I have no faith whatsoever in Knox, he absolutely should get minutes as long as he plays hard like he's been doing so far under Thibs.

But I think if we're patient with Mitch and RJ we'll be rewarded in the future.

Yes Wiseman should set Ayton as a benchmark in terms of how to improve on defense.

I was hoping CP3 would further unlock Ayton but I think Rubio is really a guy you want to have if your aim is solely in developing young bigmen. Rubio was really a factor in KAT’s development.

At least for BAF purposes I am ok if Ayton just ends up as a 15/12/3 guy with elite defense. I got enough offense around him.

It's tough running out a scoring guard who's bad at running a team & too small to guard anyone but 1s (poorly).

I'll take his backcourt partner though, if the lotto gods don't hook us up

Honestly I think Ayton will be fine. Kings kept sending double and triple teams at him like he’s Shaq. That’s why he hasn’t scored much (yet). His gravity is insane and it’s getting guys like Mikal open looks.

But back to your point, Ayton struggled a bit with Rubio at first, the same way with CP3 right now. I think he’s just trying to get used to him. It’s only a matter of time until Ayton starts to get going.
