Re: The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason
Wtf is Davis doing, don't play if you're going to have this **** effort
No rim protection, no scoring, joke
Lebron plays on a b2b for what? For you to be a soft bitch?
Trez shouldn't be a closer vs most teams
Sadly Kuzma and Wes are also not reliable
Rather have AC, who was sadly out, or even Kieff

Harrell should never be out during crunch time. He's there to extend leads. If he's getting abused on defense like this he's useless

Really not sure why Gasol didn't close. The starting lineup played well the entire game

AD probably should have sat today. He doesn't seem 100%.

Games like this make you realize why Ad had such little success in Nola. Yeah he had some horrible and injured casts but he just doesnt bring it night to night like other alltimers do. At least in the regular season hes much more of a playoff player

Davis has zero blocked shots in 3 games played. Defensive (big) player of the year candidate, in the prime of his career?
Harrell was a complete disaster on defense, yet got force-fed minutes anyway.

Re: The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason
lol gonna be a while before this team starts giving consistent effort. Barely any time off + championship hangover + major roster turnover means a lot of sloppy play.
AD really shouldn't have suited up tonight.
And LeBron, likely due to multiple ankle sprains so far this regular season, was frankly moving much better in preseason. Hasn't shown any explosiveness yet.
LA looked best when ball was in Schroder's hands.

Games like tonight are just not as frustrating as they would've been last year lol that championship relieved so much tension

This is one of the two defensive scenarios Trez is weak. First is against bigs which is more physical, second is defensive positioning on pick and rolls. I don't know why he can't figure it out, Luka abused this weakness in that Dallas series while Boban abused the first one

The defensive issues he has with the Bobans or Jokics wont ever change. Hes too small/weak for them. Thats why they have Marc/Ad
The other one is on scheme too. Vogel got burned on catch hedges this game and by Pg in the Clips game. Having Caruso would help but theyre gonna have to change up the defense for the playoffs and Vogel has shown that he can. He just tries different stuff in Rs matchups. This game is largely meaningless in the long run
Vogel might not adjust as quick as a Spo or Nurse but he does make the right ones as last playoffs showed. Trez isnt closing meaningful games over Marc or Ad at 5

Told people his D wasn't actually as bad as the bubble. Yes his poor defensive showing was because he was unfortunate enough to meet teams equipped to abuse have his two weaknesses but having said that as a fan of his talent he also needs to improve his reading on pick and roll situations. A scheme can help but it's still best if a player can use his own defensive IQ so he isn't on an island without it. He had the weakness before tonight , tonight just confirmed he still has to iron it out of his game. It's very improvable

Re: The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason
It’s early but this just doesn’t look to be the same defensive squad as last year to me. Harrell is really bad on that end and teams drive at him like he’s not even there. Gasol can be exploited. Matthews looks cooked. Davis hasn’t been and might not give consistent DPOY level impact until the playoffs. Bron is probably taking a slight step back after a great defensive season last year. Morris looks even worse with less rim protection around him. Kuz still has issues.
Offense is better with Schroder providing a dynamic this team didn’t have, Gasol spacing the floor well, and Harrell giving a nice scoring punch off the bench. But imo on a LeBron team, defense for offense tradeoffs tend to be a step down given the fact that come playoffs LBJ will take on a huge offensive load (which AD will share) and that’ll be enough.

Way too early to say Wes is cooked IMO. He was great defensively in the playoffs and put the clamps on Jimmy for alot of the minutes he was on him. Jimmy was mostly cooking every other Buck including Giannis.
Kieff will def be better when it matters and Ad plays the 5 which is the most important thing
Kuz being inconsistent and Trez being very exploitable is prolly 2 things you can count on tho. Not sure about Marc yet he had a really strong defensive game IMO

The slower, less mobile Marc Gasol performed just fine in those same pick and roll schemes.
Harrell has to take a large part of the blame here. Vogel closing with him was his biggest mistake.

Harrells been quite good defensively outside of today, and alot of it was schematic

Re: The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason
Vogel has earned my trust when it comes to rotations. Last night was likely a case of "Let's see what you can do, Trez." I'm sure they will continue to try weird closing lineups throughout the season, and then use that information to determine the optimal lineups for the playoffs.
