He is also a foreigner who plays in a foreign country for the first time. If you were sent overseas as 19 year old, I would love to see how focused you would be. Like I said I wasnt very high on him, but writing him off because he looked bad in 3 games is pretty wack. Most rookies, even ready ones are net negatives anyway.

Good point, playing in a new country and language etc...

He's from near Orlando, so he speaks English. His dad was a professional player and played in Europe.

Hayes transition to the NBA was supposed to be easier than Maledons. Hayes was also touted as the better and more offensive prospect. So far it's been the opposite during the early goings. So far Hayes IMO hasn't looked good and has no business starting yet over Rose.

If you can't dominate the NBA by the first week, you clearly should not be playing there. He should be playing in an Uzbekistan league this time next year.

Why aren’t the Pistons starting Doumbaya?

Don't know if Giannis is a great example here...

He came in 7th for All Rookie team. His VORP wasn't great... (-0.2)... but it wasn't terrible either for a 19 year old rookie drafted #15.

In fact, with his promising defensive play that season, who in the world was writing him off? If anything, it was a sigh of relief that this long unknown kid looked like he could actually play.

Hayes is in a tough spot... as are Pistons fans. There will be struggles... many struggles.

Sometimes, you have to look for moments where the potential is unmistakable. I've only seen Hayes in his first game. He had ZERO moments that I can think of where I thought "Wow! If that kid eventually puts it together..."

Pistons fans... have there been moments where he's done something special that showed off some part of his game that's unique or super duper promising?

I would say the most impressive part of Hayes' game is his accurate passing. Early on, He was hitting guys right in their hands which is great for helping get shots off quickly and with great balance. It bugs me when other guys pass the ball and the receiving player needs to scramble to catch it, which makes for a sloppy offense.

Small sample but this draft class is looking much better than people expected. Should be interesting to see how they continue to do as the season goes on.

I think that's the first time I have to disagree with you

He was born in Florida.

His Dad, Deron, was a pro here in France. A naturalized US born player ;) (just like Tony Parker dad)

So all in all, I think Killian is fine in US actually ;)

Rookie Giannis was a lot more intriguing than revisionist history suggests. He's so physically dominant now that I think some of his skill level and feel has regressed. His shot is obviously a disaster now and that wasn't the case when he was a rookie. But rookie Giannis showed lots of promise when he wasn't stuck in the corner. He's always had an insane motor and the defensive potential was clear. But there were also really impressive flashes of court vision and BBIQ. When he was a more credible shooter and was much skinnier, he spent more time as a SF and he made lots of good reads on skip passes and the like.

So far Casey just sticks him in the corner he really isnt a real PG out there at all. This last game against the Hawks he got some freedom and dint look to bad still think he could be more aggressive looking for his own shot but Im not sure what Coach is telling him to do. IMO you can tell he has talent

As others have said, it's way to early to tell. He is 19 and really, really raw. He has skills that are rare like the passing accuracy, and clearly has the physical tools, but gets lost on both ends of the court and has huge holes in his game. He'll get time to develop in Detroit; he needs it.

He's at least a year away, and could be a year away from being a year away.

I think you have to take into account that the games are being played in empty arenas which takes some of the pressure off especially for young players who are, in general, more susceptible to such pressures.

All the rookies this year are at a massive disadvantage. No organized ball at all since March, no summer league, abbreviated training camps and way less time overall to work with the coaches. That's not a defense of Hayes specifically, I'm giving all the rooks more of a pass than usual in 20-21.

Who will be the first rookie to score 30+ points?

I’ll go with C. Anthony, edwards, wiseman or haliburton

Will LaMelo Ball live up to the hype?

Post#420 » by Warren Mitchell » Wed Dec 30, 2020 1:14 am

He has tremendous size for the point guard spot. He has exceptional court vision and passing ability. His outside shot needs some work, and he needs to get stronger, and Obviously, his defense needs to get better, but I did see a drastic improvement. I was encouraged by the fact that he does really try on defense. It’s still something that he needs to learn the intricacies of, but it’s not that he doesn’t put the effort into it.”
