Julius Randle: Should we pick up his 2021-2 Team option
See Post 2 for clarification on contract deets - Cap
With us having a team option for 4 million next year it may end up that we retain him as a below cost attraction to show fans that they won't be alone.
He is learning what it is to be a first option and no longer seems to be caught up in justifying his contract like he was last year.
I liked Randle's game as a Laker and a Pelican. And now that he isn't trying g to be Kobe maybe it is for the best he sticks around.
I also want to see this board if it turns out Mills was right. (Which I think he was with Randle)
Thoughts on the maturing Randle?

Re: Julius Randle: Retain him for 4 million
It's not a team option for 4 million
It's a team option for 20 million
If we decline the option, we pay him 4 million.

That's much worse. How does that work with his bird rights? If we took the team option can he be resigned using bird rights the following year?
If they can do that there is a chance Randle gets maxed out in 2 years.
Hmmm.

Even if Randle pans out its not enough to redeem Mills. Too many bad moves. He was horrible.

Ooops. We have his rights I believe. We signed him to a three year deal with a buyout of 4mil in year 3 basically. How does he compare at his price...to next years FA class? That will be the question if he is still here. Does he play like this all year? Who knows.

We've gone from "waive and stretch Randle" to "it's time to MAX Randle" in the span of a week.
What a time to be alive.

To all of you who wanted to trade Randle for Batum, ban yourselves.

I wanted to trade him for Rozier
Spoiler:
But yes, he's showing that he has the value he always had. His role last year was the mess.

We had just freaking drafted Toppin. Though he's probably regaining some value so perhaps we wait.
Not optimistic about tonight but we shall see. I'll talk **** if I win for sure.

so a better trade value if he stay good, we can hope more than a last first round maybe. We could hope a good position for the draft if we got another first round, ready for a package to trade up if we are unlucky...

I understood about trading him cause we drafted Obi. I just didn’t understand trading him for someone like Batum who’s completely washed. Rozier makes more sense.
I’m gonna talk some schit in the BAF thread now.

Re: Julius Randle: Retain him for 4 million
It will be interesting to see if he keeps this up.
This version of Randle is def much better then last years version. But is even this version someone that you can build a good team around as a main piece and contend in the long run, especially with the rest of our core?
We will see how the rest of the season goes. Seems like he will be here for this season and probably next though. Personally, still doubt he is a long term piece to the puzzle and would sell high if i could

Batum has actually been decent for LAC* but that was of course all about a first round pick. People who wanted that straight up... well, that was dumb.
*Which I would never have guessed. He was transitioning into Boris Diaw so it makes sense that he had a rough go of it last year.

Yeah only stupid people base their preferences off a year of terrible play as opposed to 3 games.
