This board had me convinced it was going to be him after how much he was spoken about. My guys were Mikal MPJ and Trae going in (idk why I thought Trae might drop)

At least we didn’t draft him, then trade him for Zhaire & a pick that ended up being used to overpay Tobias

I don't think I've ever predicted a Knick draft pick.

I thought Obi was gonna get drafted higher (according to mocks) so I never considered him. But I really wanted the best PG available, which would've been Haliburton, or trade down for Cole.

i said he was a souped up frank. he's a complimentary player. he's doing well in that role but i don't see the big deal.

A guard who can shoot, play defense and throw dimes is a big deal for us  I do think he still has some untapped potential as a scorer too.

I honestly would rather have Quickley over Haliburton. Tyrese just gonna be an inconsistent shooter imo. All ive wanted for years is to have a guard who can shoot lights out and IQ shot seems automatic

You have to stop thinking PG A vs PG B. It's the era of positionless basketball.

The Kings weren't thinking let's draft a F because we already have Fox and Hield.

Because we could've drafted both. You can play Haliburton and Quickley together and they can get the other players involved way more than Elf could ever dream of running a team. The Kings run Fox and Haliburton together at the end and put in Joseph, who is a PG, as the secondary ballhandler. The Cavs have been trotting out Sexland and they are pretty undersized. We wouldn't have that problem.

I like the sound of that tbh. Tyrese and IQ but Thibs would never do that lol

Atleast Burkes been pretty good lol

We let the best point guard in the draft slide right past us. Of course we did. The icing on the cake will be when we re-sign Randle after we strike out on big FAs (that list is dwindling anyway) and Obi + Randle + Mitch continues to be a poor fit.

We need Suggs or Cade in this coming draft or I'm going to feel ill about Haliburton for a long time.

I mean what do you think Obi is going to be? You think his ceiling is high enough to be a #1 or #2 on a Top 4 team in the East? I still think Obi was a relatively safe pick, though I hated it, but I don't think he'll be anything great.

After Frank and Knox being dropped as the target way early & them ended up being picks, I just accepted it was going to be Obi

For once, I actually I have no issues. I see what this kid could be, something we def needed - an offensive fulcrum. I know a lot of folks liked Halliburton. I liked Hayes but had no issues with Halliburton. Didn't think we ever had a shot at LaMelo who would be my #1.

I'd love another shot to be at the top of the lottery but good luck with this organization

Haliburton's advanced stats are going to be nuts. May never put up generic star type scoring numbers but gonna have star like impact. 76 % ts%, 7 to 1 assist to TO ratio...such a unique player there are not many comparisons.

That's fine, but every good team has multiple playmakers nowadays. Adding smart players who can do a bevy of things on both ends of the floor is always a good thing. You don't have to have your 1A playmaker before finding your 1B playmaker.

As others have said, and it's not a bad thing, he's exactly what this fanbase has hoped Frank would become, and he's like this from the jump as a 20-year-old rookie. He has the savvy and aggressiveness and feel for the game that Frank will never have. He's a good player, a winning player. I would trade Obi for him in an instant, just like I wanted Haliburton on draft night.

My biggest concern with Haliburton was his fit here. With a team like ours still in search of a guy to breakdown the D and drafting a guy that’s just not his game could make for an angry fan base. If we knew Randle was gonna supernova like this it makes him a much better fit. I guess it was probably better to draft him and figure it out later. If we had him and IQ here we’d def be able to figure out what RJ is a lot quicker.

i still think you want a guard with better shot creation. and it doesn't look like it will be rj.

This is why you add the smart, skilled players and worry about the rest later. It's never a bad thing to have someone like Haliburton on your team.

I'm sure that's why the Knicks passed on him, they didn't think he was good enough to be the primary playmaker (which may be true) but on a team completely bereft of playmakers (until Julius Randle morphed into a borderline All-Star) it's tough to pass on a guy like Haliburton. Maybe Thibs was confident he could make Randle the focal point of the offense and told the FO to draft accordingly.

For the record, I wanted Hali or Vassell because I value defense + 2-way play + IQ. I think either guy along with Quickley would have been tremendous. With that being said, I still believe Obi can become a very good player with our development staff. I think by the end of the season, he'll take most of Noah's minutes and be the main back-up to Mitch and Randle as the 3rd big man in that rotation.

Return to New York Knicks
