And if not, he'll get the playing time/role he deserves.

This is the way.

If you’re the third overall pick and you’re a project, either you’re a bust, the team that picked you reached, or both.

Same for Jimmy Butler first 2/3 seasons.
Same for OG Anunboy until recently.

Anunoby was never counted on to be the center of the offense, nor was he drafted no. 3. I believe OG was drafted somewhere in the 20s. And judging by his performance the other night, I wouldn't be using him as an example of a struggling lottery pick turned it around.

I don't know enough about Butler's first three years in the league to compare. But, again, he was someone drafted in the late teens, I believe. So, yes, you're going to expect that he would take some time to develop.

I just don't see what you all see in RJ's game that gives you promise that he'll develop into something more. I know I stan for Frank but even with his slow development he provides elite defense and what is developing into a decent 3 point threat. And while Frank has not shown himself to be a dime machine by any stretch, his career assist to turnover averages are 3.0 to 1.4. That's slightly better than 2:1. RJ's are 2.4 to 2.2. RJ doesn't have but a couple moves to the basket. And his shot has regressed this year after working on it all off season. DSJ 2.0

Too small a sample size to say his shot has regressed. But valid arguments nonetheless. If RJ is still struggling like this 10 games from now then yeah, I’ll be concerned.

Or you just need to round into a role.

He's not a project. But as for top 3 picks who were projects ... Olowokandi, Kwame Brown, maybe Bennett.

John Wall was a project. A lot of 1 and done players are. You're gonna tell me Ayton, Bagley, Ben Simmons, Ingram, Fultz, etc. weren't projects when they were drafted? Even KP, I know he was picked 4th and considered a reach by experts. Some people develop faster than others. Top 3 picks you draft based on what they could potentially become. That's why juniors/seniors don't get drafted top 3 anymore.

Wall had offensive struggles as well, less than 30% 3pt shooting, 40% overall. Same for Ingram when he came into the league. If we give up on them early, we'll pay for it.

The word project seems to have changed over the years. It used to be that word was reserved for dudes that were just super raw athletes but had little in the way of polished skill. People are free to use the word how they want but to me RJ isn’t a project because he’s coming in with a pretty high floor.

Google describes "High Floor" as the player should provide consistent fantasy production. Fantasy sounds about right.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

John wall is/was the fastest player in Basketball, Has the best court vision of any point guard since Jason Kidd.

He's wasn't a project
