They were trying to run some sort of set, it seems like maybe for PG, then Utah defended it well, and then he just went into scramble mode

Well we definitely have to work on more set plays on practice for end of game

He usually plays that way against the Clippers. I don't know why. He is a good player, but would be a first ballot hall of famer if he only played against the Clippers.

Ingles is a very good player too, but it seems like he still holds a grudge against the Clippers because he almost never has a bad game against them.

I would rather not play Utah in the playoffs because of those guys. That's why I was happy when Denver beat them. Little did I know that the Clippers would figure out a way to blow that series too :x

Game note: Real pointguards make things easier for your team. They make plays for your bigs, wingmen, while they prevails your wingmen to make unnecessary turnovers in order to do what playmakers suppose to do. Example: Conley today.

Beverley is just trash in offense.

Beverley has always been a secondary ball handler and 3/D PG who you pair next to a playmaker SG/SF. Of course he thought he could be more, but that was never realistic IMO.

Clippers don't have a PG level playmaking wing, which increases the required playmaking for Bev. The triangle sets are certainly a solid way to try and circumvent the need for individual playmaking prowess and instead rely on IQ and the sets getting people open. Still, the most successful triangle offenses we know of had Pippen, Jordan and Kobe, so they still had high level wing playmakers in there, and then bigs in Shaq and Gasol too.

We usually lose when Lou has a quiet game, unless PG and Kawhi both have efficent games.

Reggie only 3 mins???

I think the coaching staff should have game planned for Conley and ingles better- you know they play out of their minds against the clippers. I saw no game plan to contain them at all. I know they were likely worried about Mitchell and Bogdanovic- they did a good job on them, but you can’t just let Conley and ingles do whatever they want

Not only playmaking. His little shooting threat doesn't provide enough space for us. He may shoot efficiently, regardless that means nothing if the opponents does not respect that. Pat's man usually go for help defense when Kawhi&PG get the ball.

Also the lack of slashing ability from Bev is not helping too. He can't break the D at all. His not a strong finisher inside too so his drive and kick plays do not generates easy buckets for our shooters.

Just bringing the ball and standing around corners for open shots are not much valuable for our current roster. If we had LBJ&Harden&Luka that's another thing. With PG&Kawhi something else. We need to make lots of off ball movements, passes, screens to get an open look against good teams. Just imagine how much it would be easier if Pat have at least one respectable offensive skills in him. :banghead:

That's all we Philly boys ask of our guys--play hard and play with pride. He had a questionable game but Philly still loves Iverson to death...

Aside from a bad 6-22 shooting night [and he was not the only one--the Clips only shot 39%] I thought PG had easily one of his finest games as a Clipper. He went 8-8 on FTs--and remains the only Clipper getting to the line consistently--and hit five 3-pointers.

George was a force defensively, responsible for all six of the Clippers’ steals. He became the third player in team history, and the first since 1994, to finish with at least 25 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

https://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/story/2021-01-01/clippers-rally-utah-jazz-kawhi-leonard-nba

also from the Times:

—Leonard joined Danny Manning as the only players in team history to record at least 20 points, 16 rebounds, nine assists and three blocks.

—The Clippers outscored Utah by 21 points when Beverley was on the court. No other Clipper produced a plus-minus rating better than eight. The guard had three fouls, but they led to only one Utah point.

—The Clippers crumbled during the postseason when Denver punched back from a 3-1 series deficit to win in the second round. For a franchise that had built its roster — and marketing — around grit, no result could have been more off-brand. It is why, this season, Lue has been at his happiest describing the fight the Clippers have shown while holding off rallies by the Lakers and Nuggets while trying to spark their own comeback Friday.

“I was proud of our fight,” Lue said. “Couldn’t make shots, shots wasn’t falling for us tonight, but we just continued to keep defending and keep grinding, so I am proud of our team for that.”
