RJ is a left handed version, less athletic, more skilled version of Richard Jefferson.

He's pretty unique. He'll never be a 42% 3 point shooter or lightning fast, but those things are a little overrated too, compared to what he brings.

It's just one game but this thread looks silly. RJ is going to have some bad games. Unfortunately, during his bad games he can go 4-25. His bad games are really going to have Knicks fans pulling their hair out. Oddly enough, Randle had a bad game and still managed to assist with the Knicks win. RJ has to figure out how to mitigate his bad performances because it can be costly.

If you’re the third overall pick and you’re a project, either you’re a bust, the team that picked you reached, or both.

Jalen Brown and Chauncey Billups come to mind...both took a little time to find their groove in the NBA

One could argue James Harden was also a project...and RJ had less collegiate experience than Harden

People are a little too loose with that b word these days. So disrespectful. A guy who is a real bust like Anthony Bennett can’t even stay on the court.

It's that, plus who's picked after you

Like, if RJ has a long career but doesn't do much and Darius Garland (for example) becomes a star, RJ is kinda a bust cause a guy taken so soon after him is really good

Kind of like how Marvin Bagley is a fine player and all, but he's always gonna be the guy taken one spot before Luka unless he becomes a superstar in his own right.

I'll stick with what I always said about RJ he is going to be a great 3rd option on a team. In my opinion that definitely doesn't qualify as a bust. That also makes him very tradable. If someone gives the right package of draft picks a high first or mid rounder and late rounder. I def show him the door. You keep drafting until you find a star. Then you build the surrounding cast.
That is also why I find it laughable when people talk about this upcoming draft and who will be the best fit with RJ. Who ever we draft RJ better fit with them, otherwise, I'll pack RJ's bags for him.

Garland is already def not going to be better than RJ.

People probably call him a bust because of where he was picked and what kind of expectations they have for top 3 pick if Anthony Bannet and Bargiani where top picks of there drafts and ppl call them bust nobody has problem not even there own fanbase but if it's RJ Barrett then Knicks fans become homer about it, he's average athlete from what I have observed whenever I see RJ drive to basket I think of 32 year old melo with bad knees, last year RJ was outran by grandpa Rubio on fastbreak and I was shocked then like wtf is this and as others have mentioned he has no iso game his 3pt range is nonexistent so far I mean there is nothing there to feel proud about and defend him we have all advanced far since Zeke era where we would get wowed by any alley oop or dunk we want more now it's been too long if someone told me you were tanking for RJ I wouldnt even bother following that season.

I think everyone should calm down on both sides. RJ deserved the criticism he got. To his credit, he put in some work and had a very nice game. But if he goes another 4-5 games of bricking again, then what?

I think everyone just needs to remember that RJ is 20, he can’t even drink yet. Most rookies this year are still younger than him. He is going to be inconsistent, but the fact that he is so young and can give you 25/5/3 as a leading scorer shows his potential. Even when he isn’t scoring well he is consistent in all the other aspects of the game. People talk about his physical limitations, but he hasn’t even fully grown into his body yet.

I think we shouldn’t get so high or low on any one game and just understand that the young players are going to need some patience.
