Stellar

And the foul was BS!

Loved him going to the elbow jumper for the win. A step-back 3, made or missed, would have had me pulling my hair out.

I just want to point out that Jaylen can score 31 points while only missing 3 shots and Tatum still had a better game. These guys are crazy good, don't take it for granted.
I apologize for the things I have said in the past.

Good win. Fun high scoring game.

Tatum for the VC. He was great. Career high 12 assists to go with 24 points and 8 rebounds and a few key defensive stops at the end.

Brown was great in the 1st half and didn’t do much in the 2nd half. He passing needs to get better.

Smart was good. So was Theis. His best game of the young season. TT also played well.

Semi also made 3 keys 3’s. We also had a dumb foul in the closing minutes.

That's exactly the point. Teams are throwing their entire defense at him. They aren't just making him pass out of the double, they are sitting on that pass. For him to be able to put it on the ground, split the double, read the defense, and make the right pass without turning it over? That's the kind of thing he needs to be able to do if we are going to talk about him as a top 10 player.

And it isn't just the assists or lack of turnovers. He was the catalyst for actual ball movement. Because when he makes that right pass, not only does it create scoring opportunities for his teammates, it puts us a step ahead of the defense, forcing them to rotate and recover -- two or three times on a good possession. When that ball is moving, it is going to find the shooters and the cutters and the easy baskets and get everyone into the flow.

I love his hot shooting games, but what we just saw was Tatum at his best.

He looked like a Tatum/Hayward hybrid today. That’s a scary, scary player.

Hayward is a great comp here. He is never rattled. Just plays calm. At a slower pace, but also with no hesitation. Does that make sense? Just makes the right read every time and then acts, like a computer or something.

Duncan had that same thing.

It’s all I could think about when watching it. He took his time reading the defense, only overdribbled on two or three of the possessions, and attacked with confidence at the right times, as you said.

Something Hayward was elite at was playing with pace, as Scal loved pointing out. Tonight, Tatum played with the best pace I’ve ever seen him play with. The level of attention he gets from other defenses is pretty crazy, but it will just keep making him a better player.

I’d be genuinely surprised if he doesn’t make 2nd team all nba this year. But that’s just a fun prediction.

Looks like Jaylen will take on the MJ role, with Tatum being his Pippen

Danny said something similar to "you wanted shooting, they are the best shooters in college!" One doesn't even play, you got us one possible shooter who is a ROOKIE, and one wait and see rookie!! Didn't add any shooting!!!!!! Just imagine how many more assists the Jays would get if people could shoot! Sitting here looking like the 6ers trying to surround Ben and Embiid before recently. Just so bad it's not even funny. :banghead:

I mean to be fair the double teams have a lot to do with about half those assists. 3-4 of those are Tatum is doubled, and he passes it to Theis the guy they doubled off from who actually hit a three tonight and had a couple floaters rolling to the rim out of Tatum doubles.

That is important to Tatum's development, passing out of double teams. Because if he can do it teams wont double him as much.

Oh for sure, I agree with all that. My only point was the attention the defense gives him has as much to do with the high assist numbers as they are a deterrent to assists. Its nice to see him handle that pressure so well.

It's definitely a usage thing, but it was also highly efficient. Not only on his 12 assists to 0 turnovers, but the team shot 57%(!) for the game. We are still not taking care of the ball, but not sure we can with this roster as it stands. In the meantime, that was beautiful offensively.

Smitty my guy, but complaining one guy didn't get enough shots is disrespectful to Joga Bonito.

It’s clear to me not having Kemba is hurting our defense.

Tatum gets it for one of his best LeBron impersonations to date.

Jaylen = lost Splash brother?

Smart was GREAT. Theis, Thompson, Semi all solid.

I don’t mean he doesn’t need to score but he needs to continue to be poised and make the right reads and get others going. Have zero turnovers is tough and hard with as many touches as he gets but very impressive today from him

Strong agree.

The early part of the season has come down to makes and misses a lot. I don't think they've necessarily executed that differently offensively from game to game. The good games have just been the ones where they hit the jumpers. What Tatum gave them today is the kind of performance that will improve the shots the team takes. That's his next step as a player, and by extension, a next step for the team.

Now you need to find rotation players who'll bury the open looks. Jaylen hit the big 3 to close out the game. Semi hit his shots today. Pritchard is going to have to be that guy. Grant? As the magic 8-ball says... "Outlook not so good."

If he keeps up his three-point shooting from tonight, he might become the Steve Kerr to the Jays' MJ and Pippen

Imagine the defense focusing so much on Tatum and then picture having competent role and bench players who can actually hit those shots consistently.

Even the last Detroit game before this brown hit several guys for wide open looks and they bricked them

Yes. To put it a different way, it is dependent on Kemba not being a gimp, Danny utilizing the TPE effectively, and young players like Robert Williams and Nesmith raising their games to the point where we can play them over slobs like Semi and Theis in the first place.

But ball movement should be our identity regardless of who is on the floor.

:o Brown is averaging 28 ppg. So happy for that lad. We should expect his numbers to take a dip but still that's quite impressive to start the season. Hopefully he ends up at around 25ppg with Kemba back but all in all his efficiency is crazy
