There was just more benefits for him, if he stays.
For start, he gets granted $17M.
Second, he is FA in year where more teams have more money.
Third, he still can end up , and probably will end up with contender regardless as Magic will trade him as exp. contract.

I think 100% of people know that we r not contender at the present time, we know that, ownership knows that, management knows that, players know that.

We r a playoff team with a bright future (when healthy)

Evan will get his $15mil per deal. We’re just not in a position to give it to him. I value him equally with Ross. We just don’t have a player with the right amount of gravity to make use of him properly.

He's like Marco Belinelli on the Spurs when they had Parker, Ginobili, Kawhi and Duncan. Which means he's not worth $15M and any team who gives him that will instantly not be a contender.

Philly, Dallas, Denver, Golden State, Portland, maybe the Clippers and Bucks. These are the teams I think might have interest in a rental of Fournier for a playoff shooting boost.

I think WeHam are waiting on the Harden deal to come together and Fournier might be part of those moving pieces.

We need to flip him for someone like a Joe Harris, Duncan Robinson, Landry Shamet, Seth Curry type role player who can do what he does but also provides defense.

Problem is WeHam don't seem capable of evaluating external talent so we likely end up with another Ennis type of return.

Marco was never able to really be a starter. so the situation isnt the same. More like an offensive vs defensive version of Danny Green.

Don't see how the magic are considered to have a bright future. ATL, Dallas, Memphis, Denver and maybe even freaking Cleveland are teams I consider to have brighter futures. There is not one player worth building around on the magic. Until the magic find that guy they are just lost.

I didn't say he's worth 15... just that he will get it. I think he's a 10-12 mil player. That's in line with solid bench players in today's market.

Evan for Lanford and Nesmith would be the perfect trade. We could start them at the 2 and the 3.

We were in the same boat with JJ Redick a few years ago and we traded him for Tobias.

It would be kinda funny if we traded Evan for NAW, since that is the guy you guys all wanted and he is riding pine in New Orleans :D

JJ for Tobias 2.0, basically.

This is a AG trade i could get behind

Lavert would instantly become our go-to scorer and be a 20-25ppg game with that kind of freedom

Id rather keep AG, but if we have to trade him, we likely wouldnt get a better deal than that

Unlike the author of this thread, I don’t think this sucks at all. Evan Fournier is vastly overrated. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a talented scorer, but his flaws make him not worth it. He’s not a good defender, that’s just flat out wrong. Evan forcing the issue makes the Magic do moves that are necessary to improve, mainly ridding us of him and finding something for Gordon. I’d be on the phone with Sacramento about Hield and Bartley, and Caris Lavert in Brooklyn. Evan and Gordon could get us any of those guys. I think the franchise needs a trade to jump start a new era. Evan needs to go.,
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Evan is not good on defense, but he is probably our second best guard defender behind MCW. He should go, but he is not bringing back more than a late first or second(s), or salary match(non-expiring) and a better pick.
We trade Fournier we get worse this year. I am fine with that, but it doesn't sound like something the FO would entertain. AG we could turn into something that helps us this year, but if we use him to fill a gaping hole at SF, we create a huge hole at PF.

I mean I love Seth Curry, but he is terrible on defense. Harris and Shamet are pretty awful also. Duncan is ok, he tries hard, but no way Miami is letting his 3 point shooting go.

Fournier is way better than Magic fans want to admit.
