Jealousy. Could it be Rudy will surpass Shaq's career earnings with his contract extension?

If Shaq was as obsessed about staying in shape, working on his game, and practicing his free throws as he is with Rudy Gobert, he would have easily been the GOAT instead of being in the 6-10 range.

I'd argue that at his absolute peak in 2000, he was more dominant than anyone who has ever played, Jordan, Wilt, you name it. He just didn't have the discipline and motivated to be that guy his entire career. If he's to be bitter, he should be bitter about how much he left on the table due to his own laziness.

Young Shaq would have been athletic and quick enough to play now but yeah after Shaq got to Miami and became slow and out of shape he would not have been able to stay on the floor in today's NBA. Shaq's peak was brief compared to most all-time greats and conditioning was a big part of why.

That’s insane to say. Like in a wrong way. Him and Kareem are far and away the longest peak centers. He’s a clown for sure but yea ridiculously long peak. 10 year stretch of +27ppg. Most all time bigs have below 5.

Shaq is a great player, even a better businessman, but somehow he has such an insecure personality. Literally who cares if you said what you could have done. Hell, if I took out a loan and invested everything I had in Moderna in the beginning of last year, I could have been worth a couple million myself.

The first time he was top 2 in MVP votes was 1995. The last was 2005. A decade isn't brief.

And Miami Shaq would be the best C in the league. Anyone talking about running Shaq off the floor doesn't understand basketball.

Shaq def could have, but that wasn't a Rudy is easy to score on thing, Shaq in his prime was borderline unstoppable unless it was Hakeem and Shaq was a pup.

He was unstoppable. He’s also super insecure and comes off weak with these takes. Like, what’s the point? Dude got paid, so what. Saying you would do something if you okayed against him has zero to do with anything today. Same with crying about Dwight celebrating his ring. Lol.

Love Shaq the player, but he is being super weak here and doesn’t bring much to the table at TNT. They’d be better off with someone replacing him. Half the time when he thinks he’s funny he’s just being cringy.

Shaq got in shape when he first went to Miami. I think just age got to him moreso than being out of shape that made his numbers go down. Also, just his sheer mass while with the Lakers is what helped him be dominant. The agile, lighter weight Shaq from Orlando wouldn't be able to dominate like the Shaq in LA did. A lighter and now older shaq wouldn't be able to move guys around as easy

Yep people turning it to a comparison don't have a clue. Shaq is getting trashed because he's overtly showing a tendency to hate on others success. The Dwight diss was unnecessary and going at gobert for getting paid is worse

Shaq is the same dude that will hype up somebody like Rik Smits for no reason because it makes his competition look better. He's just a bitter dude that doesn't like when other people get their shine which is why he fought with Penny and Kobe at times. If he wasn't so insecure he coulda been even greater

Shaq is just doing what all the media heads do - dishing out hot takes to stir up buzz.

But he's also not wrong here. He would leave Rudy Gobert in tears.

No one is questioning Shaq’s dominance. They’re just saying he’s a bitch about things he shouldn’t worry about.

Rudy Gobert has a max contract because he can wall off the paint almost single handedly so the other defenders on the Jazz can stay home on shooters.

That's a more important quality in 2020 than being being big and bulky enough to slow down Shaq, which couldn't even really be done in Shaq's era either.

I like when Shaq makes these types of comments. It reminds me of that viral video where a crow starts a fight between two cats. He doesn't have to do or say anything, but he does it just for the fun of it.

Is Gobert the new guy Shaq is picking on? Is Shaq mad that he didn't play in this era with a higher salary cap and picking on Gobert because of it?

Can Gobert guard Shaq? Nope, but Shaq dropping 45 on him just like that depends on what team Shaq is on and what kind of spacing and post feeding he has, as well a how Utah as a team defends.

Ironic he mentioned foul trouble. You don't think Shaq wouldn't be in foul trouble from being targeted in pick and rolls in today's game?

He would likely just play weaker defense in order to stay out of foul trouble.

You're kidding me, right? Did you watch Shaq in Miami or in Phoenix? He was barely getting down the floor in time to play defense back then, and the game was played at a far slower speed then than it is now.
