Atlanta Hawks a potential landing spot for DeMar DeRozan?

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Dec 13, 2019 9:43 pm

With the San Antonio Spurs’ struggles to begin the season, DeMar DeRozan’s name has been widely circulated in the rumor mill. Should he be moved, could DeRozan find himself in the ATL?

I feel like defense would be a big problem

I'd certainly be onboard picking up DeRozan for free. He'd be great off the bency as instant offense at SG.

The biggest issue, obviously, is that he has 2 more years at a very high salary.

Making matters worse, this article is expecting that we'd send a valued prospect for DD.

If the Hawks are willing to deal one of their younger players like De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish, or Kevin Huerter, attach a pick and an offsetting contract like Chandler Parsons, Evan Turner or Allen Crabbe then the Spurs should be willing to listen.

However, San Antonio would have to make peace with the fact that they’d be getting a very raw prospect in return.

That's a non-starter.

terrible negative move. We need floor spacers and defenders. Derozen is neither.

At this point, we're not making the playoffs. Just keep playing the young guys and pray that our coaching staff is good enough to keep moral up and from players developing bad habit/ losing mentality.

If Schlenk wants to tank without having to admit it, getting DeRozan is the best move he can make. His negative impact while playing will be masked by his personnal offensive stats, it will look like ATL has two offensives borderline All-Stars with Trae and DeRozan... and they will loose. The SAS opponents score 9pts more on 100 possessions with him on the floor than without him !
Perfect, except the F.A. this summer, but if Schlenk is really targeting 2021 F.A., then it's perfect.

Now, it will be hard to watch for every people wanting a bit of defense in this team...

He doesn't fit well with the pieces we already have. We need more defense and more shooting in our back court. If SA is just looking to dump salary and throws a pick or 2 in we could talk, but at that point there are probably better offers out there for them.

Popovich yanked DeRozan with 4:46 left and the Spurs trailing 101-97 after they enjoyed a 25-point lead in the first half. During the final minutes, DeRozan sat on the end of the bench and appeared at times to be disengaged from his teammates.

DeRozan is a straight baller. Rumors of his demise were clearly premature and overblown.

So many people threw dirt on this dude's name...as if he was unable to contribute to a winner. There's a reason he was a multiple time All Star and multiple All NBA player.

Happy for him.
Getting his value up for the open market. I hope he continues to prove he can make the 3 at a high %. I have said positive and negative things about him but negative due to his 3-point shooting.

I will always stay with what I said before the season start: he was a looser, with negative impact all seasons... Except the season with TOR when he took 3pts shots, even if his 3pts percentage was not so high, it improved a lot the team offense.

As long as the coach doesn't ask him to take 3s, you're screwed. This year, Pop is asking him and it translates to better offense with him, for the team, and for him.

He's a clear upgrade over Bogs. I'd offer a snt involving the two. Knowing the Spurs, they try to extend him. Also of note, this is a contract year for him so we know how these things go.

To add something, I checked the boxscores of the last 4 losses of SAS : even if it's better for them to see DeRozan taking 3s, I saw that the 2 first losses looks like everybody was dominated, but in the last 2, DeRozan got the worst and the second worst +/- (by far), so I supposed that his defensive liability is still there.
Would certainly not trading him for Bogi

In the win for SAS Vs LAC, DeRozan finished with the worst +/- (-20) of the team, LAC starting five dominated them but SAS won this game by a terrible LAC bench.
