The most valuable thing the Timelord does probably never shows up in the box score. He intimidates shooters. You can see guys hesitating or altering the trajectory of their shots when he's in the vicinity. I love to see a stat on opponents' shooting percentages (especially from from inside the arc) when he's in the game as opposed to when he is not.

Nice graphic. Robert Williams was seen as a lottery talent that fell in the draft and he's showing that he is indeed a lottery talent.

7 games in and this is exactly what I wanted to see out of Williams:

1. He's healthy
2. He's consistently getting 15-20 MPG
3. He is showing meaningful improvement on defense - his foul rate has been cut nearly in half, but his blocks/steals are still elite
4. He is hitting his FTs - very SSS but 4/5 from the line so far is encouraging

Across the board, it looks like the consistent minutes are paying off - FG%, rebound rate, steal rate, block rate, foul rate are all better. He has made a few turnovers but I think that will even out, and I can live with those mistakes if he is as active as he has been.

Is this a true breakout? Not sure. I would like to see him string 30 healthy games together, and I'd also like to see him earn Brad's trust for some crunch time minutes - mostly he's getting time in the 2nd/3rd quarter and in blowouts. But this is all super encouraging and he's the one young guy who IMO has fully taken advantage of the minutes he has gotten.

Well said. "Breaking out" is a vague target, but this has been the best-case scenario with him so far.

My view of Robert Williams is. He brings back memories of Clifford Ray and Harvey Catchings. Both of these plays were role plays that set the defense for the teams. Robert Williams does that very well. The larger version is Tacko Fall he brings good length and better offensive skills but still is a work in progress. The big question is can Robert Williams get better offensively.

SOME things may get harder for Williams when he gets more respect. E.g., he owes this basket to really stupid defense, in which two defenders rotated off of or past him when the right number would have been one.

I do wonder if his energy would fade playing 25+ MPG, but I certainly think it is warranted to give him a chance for 20+ after how he has played in the first 10 games of the year. The clearest path to a step-function improvement in this team is seeing Williams blossom into a anchor at the center spot.

Perk is evidently a believer.

A way bigger impact (than me). Robert Williams is actually something that I’ve never been and that’s athletic. He’s relentless, he’s fearless, he plays with an edge and a tenacity. He’s everything you want from a big in today’s game, the way that he’s a lob threat at the basket, he rolls hard, he sets great screens, he offensive rebounds - and most importantly he anchors a defense and protects the basket with the best of them.
