My concern is the misapplication of the word “grifting”

Yeah, one demerit for bad vocabulary usage

I don't think it's a misapplication.

If she doesn't pull the trigger, then she's selling her base a bill of goods. A fantasy that she knows won't happen.

That's not materially different than Hawley and Cruz, strictly in terms of a political tactic.

Obviously, the actual aim of what Hawley and Cruz are purportedly for is much worse.

I'd use grandstanding instead

I'd use less severe language if the stakes weren't so high. Something needs to happen here. Anything performative is also counterfeit and damaging.

If you disagree, I understand.

Not disagreeing about the urgency or the stakes, just quibbling on usage. Grifting implies an illicit reward for taking what does not belong to you, especially from gullible prey, and I see no real application in this situation.

Trump's campaign fraud is a perfect example of grifting.

Grandstanding is more accurate in terms of your application since it implies showboating of dubious intent, though not necessarily criminality which is what grifting is.

C’mon, it would be no big deal if Obama incited a violent overthrow of Congress with totally fabricated lies and then gave the anarchists comfort during their anarchy — with elected leaders’ lives on the line.

I doubt Republicans would make much of a stink about that.

There’s been an unbelievable amount of naivety from many Americans in the media, in the general public, about what could happen once this monster is unleashed. I worry for the future of your democracy.

Trump needs to be removed from office, now. This argument that he only has 12-13 days doesn’t cut it. Think about this, he’s been banned by Twitter, he’s been banned by Facebook, but he still has control of the nuclear codes.

The militias will keep meeting in their sheds. The FBI will have their hands full if they are doing their jobs. Trump will remain their icon, but they will likely need a third party to represent them. They are a vocal and sometimes violent 15% of the population. That another 15% of the population voted alongside them won't be enough to sustain the GOP's viability after yesterday.

We're talking about basically 15% of Americans are completely down with fascist rule. About the same amount enabled them.

They are not the majority of the population, but they are dangerous. The Democrats need to abolish the electoral college and go to the popular vote ASAP to weaken their future opportunities to fck chit up politically

Where did you get the 15% number? I think it’s higher if you include those who “very strongly” support their actions.

Not registered voters, just what I estimate the raw population totals to be. I put it at 15% of Americans are die hard Trumpers now and that's a freaking a lot

There more registered Dems than Reps anyway and then there's independents as well, so when I say 15% + 15% that does represent most of registered Republicans

PSA: Swamp monster deluxe Kayleigh McEnany set to hold a press briefing momentarily. Over/under on her:

1. Bringing up the stolen election again?
2. False equivalencies with BLM?
3. Blaming this on Antifa?

For those who are interested, this is an excellent interview with author Richard Perlstein who has studied and written about the conservative movement from Nixon (if not before) to date. Here's his interview from today's Majority Report episode:

So Trump is headed to Camp David this weekend. That's where he always takes his family to discuss mafia business. Someone leaked he will be writing up a pardon for himself.

Meanwhile, Pence is not taking Schumer's calls about the 25th Amendment so he has his tail between his legs. Big surprise there.

Nancy needs to commence impeachment proceedings now. Ossoff and Warnock should be sworn in in time to pull it off without needing Mitch to cooperate.

Let's Go Pelosi!

The FBI is not waiting for Biden to be inaugurated. They are going after Trump for domestic terrorism. He's so fcked. His self-pardons are going to get bounced out of court so hard and he is going to be tried for treason

Per CNN, he is not headed to Camp David anymore. Either way, he will be scheming all weekend on pardoning himself. Shameless.
