He's a POS and is going to be a problem. I'm pretty sure in this case though you'll get one GOP Senator who wants to attach themselves to $2,000 checks to replace Manchin
Stephanie Rhule (idk who that is CNN maybe) was on the pivot podcast. Someone told her Manchin would flip to Rep if Dems win in GA. She called him and asked and he’s hell no.
Not related to what you’re talking about but since we’re talking about him
I called him the new most powerful man in the Senate.
Two things need to happen next. Successful workarounds on the filibuster (I posted about it; it is possible) and a dominant performance in the mid-terms. I don't know who is up for re-election, but the Dems need to figure out how to short circuit the filibuster and then build a cushion in the Senate so they can operate without obstruction. They'll get stuff done this next two years, but it will still be a grind and handicapped by guys like Manchin.
I will never understand the "logic" that POS people like Manchin use when it comes to being against giving the American people direct payments like $2000. And we're not even talking per month - which honestly should have been done from the beginning.
When you give people direct payments, like say, a family with a baby on the way, guess what they will spend their money on? Goods and services! They will have money (not using credit cards and putting themselves in further debt) to buy diapers, clothes, food, or use it for their monthly rent/mortgage. Or...OR! They can support that new local business down the street that is selling candles or they can help support their friend's family restaurant that has been passed down from their grandfather to keep it from getting shut down.
Giving people direct payments means the money will be spent - which is essentially reinvesting in the country and WILL boost the economy. Why is it an issue to people like him - especially during a once in a lifetime pandemic that giving them assistance is the worst thing ever? I really don't get it. I would say that since someone like Manchin is so against giving people aid, the people should stop giving him a paycheck, but he's already well-off, so it wouldn't make that much of a difference for him. It's really a shame we are even here.
Many other countries have gotten it right, and yet many people think the US is the greatest country in the world while refusing to properly take care of its people...I'm really confused.
