Re: Around the NBA: 2020-21 Season
ATL will trade Collins and Gallo will start.
Bigger issue is Covid. Guys getting it and this tracing 10 quarantine is crazy. Soon there will starting 5s sitting out. I could see a shutdown coming for 10 days. MPJ was out 7 and now they are saying an additional 10-14 days. That’s almost a month.

I could be wrong but I believe he was in for contact tracing and then tested positive hence the 10-14 day quarantine vs the initial 7 day

Not really possible unless there’s a 3 way deal. They dont want to pay him because they’re essentially out of cap room with Trae’s (super?)max coming.
My guess is they want very young talent or draft picks. Bulls wouldn’t send PW or future FRPs.

Yeah Atlanta normalized pretty quick.
The next stretch should tell how good they really are.
Revenge game vs Charlotte.
Sixers.
Suns.
Jazz.
Blazers.

Meh, I don’t want to pay a big who is a liability on defense the kind of money he is demanding.

Not sure that they actually do want young talent because they are already brimming with it. With all the vets they brought in recently, they are trying to flip the switch to a win now team. That would mean they would trade for a star vet if one is available (cough Harden).
Having said that, I don't think AK will pursue Collins just cause of AK's emphasis on multi-positional players. Collins is strictly a PF that can't defend centers or wings at all.

Yeah, no thanks to maxing him, but we don't know if he'll really get that offer. Then again, Charlotte's gonna have enough cap...
He would be a big upgrade over Lauri and Wendell though. I think he has a good shot of becoming an all-star in the right situation.
Maybe Miami signs-and-trades for him.

Love it.
People don't want to pay Lauri $18 million per year but they'll gladly give John Collins - a known one way player who's also unable to create his own shot - the MAX.
The grass is so green on the other side, it hurts.

They can’t afford a star vet. The only they want young talent is because it’s cheap, not because they don’t think they have enough.
They don’t want to be a luxury tax team with Harden or anyone similar. If they want a vet it would have to include Bogdanovic or Gallo just to offload some of the salary. Not even sure if when you can trade newly signed guys right away this year because of the weird offseason.

I guess the Hawks will do what they probably wanted to do in the summer when they hired him as an assistant and make Nate McMillan the head coach pretty soon.
Pretty much every move they made since the Capela deal signals that they’re absolutely not ready to be patient with this. Not a fan of how they’re doing this tbh.

Yeah feels like an Otto Porter max. Nobody believes he's a max player but the economy of the moment may make it happen. A lot of teams with cap space and a lot of the big FA class off the board.

We like Collins' fans better
No body knows if Collins can create his own shot...Young doesn't let anyone else try.

Man Bradley Beal has snapped this season. Scoring so effortless right now.
Props to him to continue getting better every year. Never saw him as a 30ppg scorer but he will do it in back to back years.

Re: Around the NBA: 2020-21 Season
Well , Jerami Grant sticking it to the pundits (inc. me). I liked his game, but felt he was an unreliable shooter. Thought DEN was (mostly) right to let him go at $20m salary.
At this pace, I'm not so sure going with MPJ was the right decision. He was a big part of their defense and a good system player. MPJ is obviously a huge mid-FRP catch, but his game is basically iso shooting, and he's obviously a defense liability who makes Jokic even worse.
At least DET has something to feel alright about.

Randle has been pretty good since he was in NO. The light started to come on and with Thibs he's just given the go ahead to be himself.
You're right. His last two season with NO and the Knicks were good, but can get lost in the background since those teams were bad. But as far as overall play, this is his best season so far since we're seeing the playmaking on top of his scoring. The playmaking is what people saw promising in him being similar to Lebron. He's averaging almost 8 assists. If he keeps it up on top of shooting the deep ball fairly decent, this should be a career year for him.
Randle is a really good player and people tend to forget how young these guys are when coming into the league.
