As a guard/forward with weak athleticism being able to shoot or create your own shot is absolutely necessary. RJ can’t do either one well

look, we all hope he can turn it around. there's a level of impatience but there's also a level of seeing this thing before and knowing how it usually turns out. could rj make himself into a decent player one day ? sure. but we're getting closer and closer every day to knowing he's most likely not gonna be anything special. look at knox, we don't look at him anymore and think what he might become. we're just happy he's somewhat useful at all. we applaud the mediocrity because before we had nothing. rj is approaching that same territory.

Well look at Ariza. He was crap when we gave him up. Same with Mark Jackson. Both couldn’t play or shoot when we let them go and they both had successful careers.

You’re not wrong but the line between useful and good (or not good) are closer than they appear once your team is good and playing meaningful games.

We do have lower hopes for Knox but that doesn’t mean he won’t be a good player on a good team one day, and get near Maxed.

RJ could easily be as important as an Ariza or more. He could have a better career than Ingram still. Ingram isn’t winning.
Right. Just because he may not end up a superstar doesn't mean he can't be a useful piece.

We always complain that players play better when they leave here but never consider it's because we give up on players way too early.

I'd keep RJ. He'd be a decent 4th or 5th option if he's not paid too much.

i mean if you expected rj to be some sort of star idk what to tell you. i'm just relieved that he likely wont get a big contract and be an anchor for years. he can be a positive player if used correctly and that's fine.

Larry Brown would have made RJ cry. 15th man and DNPs

Herro dropped another 30 piece

Watch RJ play super passive tommorow being on Nat TV against Durant

For a number 3 pick he's trending toward average. He's not Michael Jordan, nor is he Adam Morrison.
He's basically our very own Shareef Abdur- Rahim.

LB would've played him for his defense and you know it.

This thread is funny because RJ has by far the highest +/- numbers on the team. He can't buy a bucket (seriously his jumper is insanely bad) but he's one of the best perimeter defenders in the league so far by any measure.

That being said his offense is beyond terrible and it's hard to see a player with that broken a shot becoming a star. Still he's a hard worker and I don't see why he can't improve like Jimmy Butler did to become great with his current skillset. He just really needs to get his shot even respectable.

We should bring back Isiah and trade away our picks before we waste them. This patience & hope s*** just isn't for us.

It would be easier if he wasn’t so terrible looking on offense most nights. But when you look the way R has.. a fan base quickly loses all hope of that player becoming anything special.. which is deflating for a top 3 pick

the fanbase definitely needs to accept responsibility for putting pressure on the process they've begged for, but at the same time, we must also acknowledge that the roster bears some deadweight from previous front offices' poor decisions. i don't think RJ is dead weight (like DSJ, for example), but i'd be okay with rose & co using roster assets to pivot into their own explicit vision as long as they don't mortgage away autonomy over their future to do so

i don't get what people don't see about this. it's becoming clearer with every passing game that the most we can hope for is just maybe a decent player one day. not even today, one day. well, who cares about him then ? and why the **** are we giving him 18 shots a game and 40 minutes if that's all he is ? he probably won't even be here after 4 years.

We're giving him 18 shots and 40 minutes because he's one of like 4 players on the team that has a future where he can possibly be an impact guy for us (not to mention like I said before his defense is great and Thibs loves that in his wings). RJ, Mitch, IQ (for now), and Obi are really the only guys on the team that might be here in 2025, so they're the only guys that should be getting played beyond what they can handle for now.

It's not like we're talented enough to bench him. Say what you want about his lack of a jumper but outside of Julius, Mitch, and Burks when he was playing he's the best player on the team right now. Says a lot about the lack of talent we have.

A lot of his struggles are tied to shooting and that is something that can be improved upon. Most of the struggles are on RJ, but lets be real...it also is a horrible lineup to put around him with lack of spacing and PG play. Again, not to take responsibility away but that situation also doesnt do him any favors.

There is def a lack of patience though

He also is kinda sucky around the rim. Not all to crafty to make up for meh athleticism. He’s all about strength down there but sometimes that isn’t enough and get stuffed
