The next ten games

Post#1 » by Calinks » Tue Jan 12, 2021 6:32 pm

Looking at the next 10 games I think we have to start making some hay. The hope is, that the team continues to improve as the season goes on but we still play well enough to be in contention for one of those top 10 spots. We aren't a team that is likely to rattle off 5,6,7 game win streaks but I think we would make some really nice progress if we go just over .500 for these next ten games and manage to get 6 wins.

Grizzles
Grizzlies
@Hawks
Magic
Hakws
Pelicans
@Warriors
Sixers
Cavs
@Cavs

I don't think we are good enough to rattle off 4+ games but I'd be happy with .500 and excited with more. If we can stay afloat in these next ten, the team will hopefully have more chemistry and maybe we can start rolling by the season mid-point and start making up some of this lost ground.

We better be above .500. Come on...

Vs Grizzlies two times without Ja
Vs Cavs two times
Vs Magic

I expect 6-4 but i hope for a 7-3

Depends how often they run with the full team or end up going back and forth missing Towns or whoever impacting chemistry and how they choose to play.

Another thing, on whether they start shooting more threes or not.

We have seen we are fairly bad right now, we have huge offensive lapses and our defense shows up for maybe one quarter. I think that will get better in time but right now I can't be confident in any win. 7-3 would be amazing but at this point going .500 would be a big step up, we just had a 7 game losing steak, most were blowouts. Got to be realistic about our quality of play.

As long as we can stay healthy we could beat any team on that 10 game clip. Winning can become just as contagious as losing. We could look at these injuries as a blessing in the fact Vando was forced into the lineup and moved Layman out of the lineup. Not only does it give Vando much need and deserved playing time but also shows that 4 guards and 1 big doesn't work. I hope this team understand it needs to go on a run here and can get 8/6 wins.

Something to keep in mind, we could get hit with Covid and be decimated roster wise too. At some point this season it will probably happen. Some NBA players have been positive twice.

Looks like 10 straight wins, tbh.

We are 2 back in the loss column for 8th after losing 7 in a row, that's wild.

AND the schedule has eased up after the first 10..let's see our record after this 10

A 7-3 or better would be awesome, but even 5-5 or 6-4 puts us in a good spot.

I’m hoping for a decent sample size of KAT and JV ... it seems like a natural pairing and would also allow Layman and Juancho to return to smaller intermittent roles at SF/PF.

I’m also curious to see if Rosas/Ryan can figure out their hodge lodge of guards ... we need movers and shakers - not chuckers. KAT and JV are willing able to move the ball so there’s absolutely no reason our guards should be chucking bad shots.

Defense: spend more time working on defense. Sick of them talking about it because it is not translating to the floor. Good defensive teams value offensive execution. I’ve said it 100 times ... we need to find a leader and we need to be gritty, but until head coach holds players accountable, we are what we are.

Today is likely the last game I bother with this year. It will depend on what I see them choose to do with the players this game. If it is my last, I hope for all your sakes the entertainment level of the team at least gets much better later this season. They have some players capable of doing so if used correctly. I'm just not going to find much value in chasing record differences with the very bottom of the league anymore. The team can choose to exist there but I'm not going to choose to watch it anymore.

There's no getting-out of this Timberwolves fandom thing. Fans of every other team in sports would have hit their Last Straw moment 10 years ago.

With a full roster, a .500 record over the next 10 games is a movement in the right direction, but I fear they will continue to struggle with execution and rotational consistency. Ryan/staff have to find away to establish a credible defensive presence and stop baby-sitting the offense. These are pro NBA athletes ... gritty defense, ball movement, and good shot selection should come far more naturally than what we are witnessing. The floor spacing a great concept, but it's like dogs chasing cars ... you have to know what do with it once you catch it.

These next ten games will (more or less) draw the line between Late pre Season and true Regular Season.
May we be found there with a not-so-disgraceful record (let's say we make from now on 4-6 to end up the LPS with 7-13).
