I'll just agree to disagree...Rockets wanted the deal done today and there leverage was to play philly against the nets...who blinked first.
I think it also makes sense they didn't love the allen and levert package (which was reported as well) since they shipped both to other teams for players/picks they wanted.
Flipping Lavert and Allen was always an option and it was easy peasy as they have reasonable contracts and not 30 mil plus like Simmons. They picked up Oladipo and already have Wood so don't need Allen. Now they got all those picks to use in trades to upgrade the rest of the roster. The Nets deal was always better
I am agreeing with you. I think the nets deal made more sense for the rockets. I'm saying that they leaked that simmons was inolved in the deal so the nets would give them everything they had. If there was no pressure that the philly offer on the table what would be the incentive for the nets to give up levert, allen, and 8 draft picks (4 1sts and 4 swaps) Nets put there final best offer which was the whole team outside of KD and Kyrie. Rockets did a good job.
That Nets deal was on the table for weeks now, there were reports about this very same deal being on the table from the Nets back when the season was about to start. There was no need for Philly to apply any pressure on Brooklyn when Brooklyn was all in on Harden from the get go. Houston was the one who was holding out on trading him in hopes of repairing their relationship with Harden and making it work with him but it got nowhere. Morey loves Harden and we'd have to be foolish in thinking he didn't legit try to get him in Philly and all this was him just attempting to put some pressure on Brooklyn. Not buying it for one second.
