OFFENSIVELY: Irving/Harden/Durant vs Past Combos

Post#1 » by picc » Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:42 pm

Obviously we wont know for sure until they play. But since the best thing realgm does is speculate hot takes, how do they stack up vs

Curry/Klay/Durant/Green

Wade/Lebron/Bosh

Magic/Worthy/Kareem

Bird/McHale/Walton

And so on, etc.

Immediately, there are more diminishing returns with three perimeter players.

But how do you think they stack up offensively to all these combos (and whatever others you can think of.

Curry/Klay/Durant are clearly better since all of them are in their prime and fit way better than the Nets stars.
When this account gets more "And1"s than posts written ...then my life will be complete. And maybe it will be the right time to hang it up. (Achieved on 2017-2018 season)...but still here.

I'd omit Green for warriors team since adding a 4th player makes that combo much more lethal.

Curry/Klay/Durant over Kyrie/Harden/Durant imo. More balanced in terms of of each player being able to play off the ball versus Kyrie/Harden are pretty ball dominant to be affective.

The great thing about Irving/Harden/Durant...they're all outstanding shooters and they're all elite at creating off the dribble, from anywhere on the court. From that perspective, there's no good way to guard them other than hope they miss.

Interesting. That was my take on why their offense is less affective than Warrior's Durant.

Someone needs to be more off ball. Sadly I think it'll be KD and also a bit of harden. Meaning kyrie will play the same lol.

the 2011 heat probably has the most talented big 3, but the lebron wade fit isn't great. They still won two chips later, that's because of the talent.

Then it's KD warriors who fit like a glove, talent for the top 3 comparable with 2011, with klay slightly below prime bosh.

Give me Parker/Ginobili/Duncan, Jordan/Pippen/Rodman, Allen/Pierce/Garnett, Fisher/Bryant/Shaq over these overrated self proclaimed artists all day every day and twice on sunday. Bball is not, even on todays nba just offence. Gsw were great because lot defensive switching and defense led by Igoudala,Bogut and Green.

Kyrie is not a great finisher or playmaker. KD is not a great post player or screener.

They have no chemistry together.

That alone puts them at the bottom of established historic trios.

Its certainly impossible to double team now. And yes, all of them can shoot effectively off a spot up.

Think about all the dribbling between Kyrie and Harden. It is the complete opposite of what KD had in gstate with Curry and Klay lol.

Steph, Klay and KD all day

Not saying the nets trio will be bad or anything, they’re gonna be lethal. Just can’t put them over the Dubz trio in their primes and healthy.

I worry about kyries mentality with this trio. I think harden and kd would be better. Certainly the three have a heigher ceiling but I don’t think it’ll be reached.

Skill wise they all fight great. They can do everything offensively. Completely unguardable collectively.

Going to call a disaster. All these dudes over 30. Irving is moody, Harden went in the high fat/high carb diet and I don’t think they are going to be able to work on this. We’ll see.

Hard to beat Curry, Durant, Klay imo. Curry and Klay move off the ball very well and don't need to pound the rock to score, which leaves more space for Durant to work. Not as much overlap and their skillsets fit together like a puzzle.

LeBron, Wade, Bosh had a lot of overlap offensively too like Durant/Harden/Kyrie. Luckily the Miami trio was so great defensively, and you still had two transcendent players to close games offensively.

Hard to compare old trios. Magic, Kareem and Worthy take a backseat to nobody, it's just hard to compare because of how different the game is.

Irving wanted to be the man on offense and now he is the 3rd fiddle. Harden hated playing off ball next to CP3 and Westbrook. Both of them love to dribble the air out of the ball and shoot. How long until Irving and Harden are at each others throats? It will be an interesting season no doubt.

Talent-wise, yes because they all can create their own shot much easier than the trio of Steph/Klay. And to me it's easier to train Irving and Harden to shoot coming off screens or moving without the ball than to ask Steph & Klay to create space to get their own shot w/o help.

One trio that people forget as far as offensive trios are Allen/Robinson/Cassell. That trio was pretty good as well.
