76ers Offered Ben Simmons, Matisse Thybulle, Picks To Rockets For James Harden

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jan 14, 2021 2:01 am

Daryl Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers made an offer to the Houston Rockets for James Harden that included Ben Simmons, Matisse Thybulle and some form of draft compensation.

While it had been widely believed that the Rockets sought a young franchise cornerstone in a trade for Harden with Simmons fitting the bill, Houston instead went with a package from the Brooklyn Nets that included four future first round picks and four pick swaps.

Harden had long preferred a trade to either the Nets or 76ers.

The 76'ers dodged a bullet there.

Lol at Morey pretending to be buddies with Simmons, when he desperately wanted to swap him for Harden

Houston is being a little petty by putting this out there. Snitching to shake up the morale of Morrey's new organization.

Ben Simmons is a role player. No one is scared of a player who scores 13 points a night and can't shoot 3's. Having him in your lineup makes it so much easier for the opposing defense.

Theo, have you forgotten your Philly roots? Anyway, you're right. Ben aint scaring no one... on the offensive side, but he a nightmare defensively and that pretty much erases his offensive deficiencies completely. Plus he can create magically for teammates. I mean, dude is kind of a workhorse, right? Plays super hard defensively and passes first or creates for others on the other end. What's not to like about that? Won't win you a chip most likely, tho... but still.

Seems a bit presumptuous to assume this came from the Rockets' camp when the overwhelming majority of sports leaks come from in-house sources.

You contradicted yourself, that is as you stated why it won’t win you a ring (because his defense cannot out weigh his lack of offense in an offensive driven league...that makes no sense). You can say defense wins you a championship but it doesn’t if you can’t score when counted on. Not being able to shoot as the primary ball handler????? This isn’t the era for that. Makes it easier to play defense against them in the playoffs and it happens every year. You can literally guard everyone tight as hell and have your C guard Simmons and force embid to sit at the three point line brick after brick and just camp in the paint. I’m a 76ers fan and am tired of seeing that in the playoffs. It forces Embid to take threes that are unwarranted at times even when he has a mismatch it’s god awful at times to watch.

Ben Simmons would make a lot more sense to you if you thought of him as a point guard version of Draymond Green instead of a guy who's supposed to be a number 1 option. He's not a great scorer, probably never will be. But he does have a lot of skills that are really valuable. Simmons would probably be a great fit on almost every other team in the league but Joel Embiid is like the worst possible player to try to pair him with.

1. No Embiid is not the worst fit next to Simmons. Having Giannis with Simmons is the worst fit of them all. Cause giannis is a worst shooter than Embiid and is not a paint/rim protector. He’s a great interior help defender just like Simmons.

2. Embiid had his way against Celtics in bubble 30/10. On high efficiency and sixers still got swept. So you still need a glue guy help defender like Simmons on defense to keep games close.
