At least Harden didn't drag his teams name through the mud trying to make up fake injury diagnosis BS and sully the reputation of the franchise for a bit. Harden also didn't kill his trade value by saying he'd only play with one team.

His reputation is fine, Harden knows that NBA fans/commentators have decided that rings matter above everything else. As long as he puts up great numbers in the playoffs, he'll get credit for winning a ring and how he gets there will be lost. It's an inevitable product of the myopic way we analyze players' legacies.

Harden hasn't done anything remotely close to what Kawhi did. Sure James said some not nice things about the Rockets to the media, but he's still out there playing 36 minutes a game.

He gave it his all in Houston for 8 years. I don't see any issue with him bailing at this stage of his career as he only has a few productive years left to try and win a title. Houston had ample opportunity to win a title with him but failed (except in 2018, but then they got unlucky with injuries).

MDA left, Morey left and his new(ish) owner sucks.

They tried to retool around him and did a decent job, but he made it clear during the offseason he was over it.

His relationships with Dwight, CP3 and Russ are all well documented. His affect on the culture in Houston was known. He was still an automatic playoff berth in the West and a perennial MVP contender.

It ended about as well as a divorce like this can end.

this is why the modern generation of players will always be cowards and never receive these:

Honors befitting players who gut it out for your fans and your franchise, and earn a permanent place in their hearts. Hakeem belongs to a time and place, not just a random strip club in whatever city he is in tonight.

You know how many seasons it took for Hakeem to finally win his first title in Houston? 10.

I don’t think I’m in the minority in Houston fans in Wanting James to get a championship. He made Houston relevant again. He left on a bad note, but god he was good for us and brought us good years.

That said I want him to win this year then they implode and all the Brooklyn picks are high

I’m not as mad at him...it’s just how the league is now, it sucks, but with Tillman he wasn’t going to win and now the thing to do is request out if you aren’t going to win

His reputation has taken a big hit with all this, but if they do win a ring as time goes by it will be less and less of a toll.

So yeah, If the Nets win a title a lot of people will ignore what he did and he will improve in all-time rankings.

If he wins FMVP on the other hand, then he's really going to do something for his legacy.
