Post Game Thoughts. Grizzlies.

Post#1 » by coolcono » Thu Jan 14, 2021 3:28 am

I was only able to watch the 4th.
What is this, I don't even..
They had a ten point lead and lose by double digits.
Don't let Russell shoot the ball in crunch time.
I would let Beasely shoot the ball, but he always goes cold towards the end of the game.
A veteran player here would do wonders. But we cannot bring in another guard. Not enough minutes.

This is on Saunders and the 2nd unit. Saunders knows we are desperate for wins so when they cut the 12 pt lead to 8 he should've put in his BEST lineup to close it out. Culver, Edwards and Rubio gave us nothing tonight. Really hope we have either a new PF after trade deadline.

Outside of dlo, Beasley, towns I doubt anyone else is a legit starter. Edwards is the #1 pick. But he only gives u a good shooting game once in a while. This team is lacking a normal size 3D and a good PF who can protect the paint and rebound.

Horrible Timberwolves loss vs a very scrappy well coached team in the Memphis Grizz. Even with no Morant & Jackson, they gave the Wolves everything they could handle. Taylor Jenkins is a very good head coach that made some excellent second half adjustments. Memphis had an excellent hire in that one and found their head coach of the future. He doesn’t make excuses when he’s missing his top players unlike someone who coaches for Minnesota.

Some positives:

Malik Beasley might be the Wolves best catch & shooter since Wally Szczerbiak. He started out red hot carrying the Wolves in the first half. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and his motor is always running red hot. That 4 year 60 million contract is looking better every game.

D’Angelo Russell continues to have turned the corner from the poor start of the season. Last 5 games, he has averaged 25 PPG and facilitating the offense like the former All Star point guard he once was.

Karl Anthony Towns is a new player. His defense has really come along. He’s become a low post defensive presence. He’s complaining a lot less too this year. He’s looking like he will be an All NBA center and All Star this season after missing both last year.

The Bad:

Ryan Saunders should be officially on the hot seat. Gersson Rosas stated yesterday in his interview that these blowout losses have been unacceptable and the bad team record speaks for themselves. The positive flashes this season have not been enough to outweigh the bad. There was zero excuse to lose tonight to a depleted Memphis Grizzlies. This game was a perfect example of Ryan getting consistently out coached every night by the opposing team.

Wolves Plus rerunning the overconfident Edwards interview with Marney, again. Will probably run all season long. Great timing after the past few games where he's gone into a shell.

he can play any position in football. Even quarterback, he would just have to work on accuracy.

Same with basketball. Just go work on accuracy and watch some game film - of a better team.

Can probably throw Vanderbilt in there as well, despite JimPete going crazy every time the guy raises his arms above his head.

Again, when Marney teased that interview she said "Anthony Edwards, who scored a basket in this game..."

Rosas should be on the hotseat. He created this. More concerned with that even if Saunders is allowing all these games to unravel.

If they are serious about winning games Culver shouldn’t be in the rotation

A1 from day 1

I hate to make light of him even though I do. I really like when he says he couldn't be happier getting paid to play a game. But there is no doubt about it, he has so much the team needs to start teaching him about this game. The team and this kid both have to start putting in real time and work, film work, court work.

Seriously even RHJ would've put up a better fight against valenciunas even though RHJ is like 6'6 he's plays larger than that and much more physical than any of our bigs.

They had three guys that all looked larger than Kat on the court together. Kat looked like an undersized PF tonight.

This team straight up needs a 6-11 or true 7 footer. Dump whoever and bring one in. We have a back to back with Grizz and right now it looks like two losses. Timberwolves owned this game for 3 quarters and let them stay close in score. Finally built a nice lead, then they bully balled Wolves right out of the gym.

We were the better team early and couldn't get any separation. Then Grayson Allen made back to back 3s followed by Kyle Anderson making back to back threes. THAT'S ALL IT TAKES TO BEAT US!

Hard to say any of Rosas moves are looking good

I would take the roster he inherited of something along the lines of

KAT
Wig
RCov
Dieng
Okogie
Saric
Tyus or Rose, or even like a DJ Augustin caliber FA PG

Cam Johnson 2019, say the #10-#14 pick in 2020

That's all it took for them to freak out/quit/whatever you want to call it. Seen it a number of times this season already.

The poor, really poor shooting needs to stop. At the moment Grizz finally took that lead for good there, they were 8 of 23 from Three(35%) while the Wolves were 8 of 33 (24%) . The Wolves only hit one more the rest of the 4th Q. Grizz never hit another one, ending 8-25(32%).
Wolves ended 9-37 (24%)

Grizz went to town in the paint.

Can't argue against that. To me Jmac and Beasley have been the good adds they've had. JMac is better than DJ A right now, but somewhat similar players. DJ probably has better defensive experience. I do like Dlo better than Wiggins. Almost all the remaining moves this guy has done are screwy.

Not many of us were happy running back Kat/Wiggins every season for not. But yeah they could have continued making better draft picks and improved it. The big thing is after the last trade deadline he did a lot to improve on the mess he first walked in and made. Things were looking up. But yeah if you keep getting an even worse result it's hard to praise his moves so far.

Being the POBO in the NBA is so hard. How to fix the issue of Towns being undersized against a team with three players his size or larger all playing together?

They scored 80 pts in the paint they said. Plus Wolves shot 24% on the day.

So, need major size and shooting. Toss in game IQ, passing ability, defensive desire.

Boy, that was hard Rosas. Real difficult job you got there. Do it.
