Now will be a great time to trade Ayton. All those contenders will be making silly trades with the Nets getting stronger

Haliburton with another star game:

11/2/6 on 57/75 shooting at the half in 16 minutes.

It was a bad move at the time and it's getting worse and worse every day that goes by.

What a **** up by Jones.

Another lesson to take BPA when they fall into your lap.

Potentially passed on the best player in the entire draft class for a backup big who might be out of the league in a year or two.

So you're saying a team will want a monster like Ayton to stop the Nets and we can likely get an enormous haul for him?

And Smith hasn't done SQUAT in a week or two! J/K...yeah, it would have been nice to have Haliburton, especially when Payne is out..or Paul...or Booker.

But it doesn't impact the high hopes I have for Smith.

"monster like Ayton" must be sarcasm but to answer your question is that you always find teams make desperate moves when a contender trades for a big time player during the season

I just find it ironic how much you say Ayton sucks and then saying with these trades and contenders someone will want Ayton...so yes, it was sarcasm.

Ayton is suctacular but I also said that teams will be desperate to make moves after that Harden trade, meaning if Ayton was on the block GMs would look at Ayton as the #1 pick back in 2018 and think he can make an impact and in return the Suns could probably pull off a Gasol type steal.

Interesting. We'll have to think of a player similar to the value of prime Pau Gasol that a team who wants to try and contend and compete with the Nets would want to trade for Ayton, hoping Ayton would give them a better chance than that prime Paul Gasol type player to knock out the Nets.

I'll start trying to think of teams that might want to do this.

I wish we had a late 1st to trade for Allen and be a part of this trade. Would’ve given us some much needed size depth. And also potential Ayton insurance.

Can’t create his own shot but runs hard, blocks shots, rebounds well and plays physical on both sides.

I'd probably trade Ayton for him straight up, right now.

Only issue with Allen is that he's due an extension this summer. Are we willing to pay him 20+ mil per?

If he's traded for a late first rounder then he's not gonna get 20+ million.

Not sure it would take that much. But let me put it this way: I'd much rather pay him 20/yr this summer than pay Ayton 15/yr next summer, if everything stays on the course we see now with these two fine young gentleman.

*edit: Mavs might pay him that, they are pretty much the only ones with cap space and Allen might be one of the best FA-s. But bit of a moot point in this, and also somewhat of a special situation. Outside of the Mavs and Cleveland, who has a bit of an incentive to keep him if they traded assets to get him (no matter how sucky assets), he likely wouldn't get paid that much - imho.

His tweet is more to say that we might not net more than something similar in an Ayton trade.

I like him...mostly same strengths at Ayton with less offense overall (so based on frustrations with Ayton after his 18 ppg and sometimes 25 ppg last year, and as much as people want more offense from our C, people would likely be more frustrated with Allen. He didn't gotten as many blocks or boards as Ayton last year unless you extrapolate to per 36, which isn't always accurate, and then they are closer to equal in those cats. But he's also a year further into his career than Ayton.

He's basically a little bit of a poor man's Ayton that will need his 2nd contract next year.

The Nets are like some sales departments I've worked with.

Harden is the classic party all the time, won't do the little **** like log into the CRM, will skip company wide meetings he doesn't feel are important. But blows his quota away every quarter so you don't care and you've given up on trying to manage years ago.

Durant is the high achiever who's mostly good to deal with but has thin skin and needs lots of constant praise.

Kyrie is the guy who lands huge deals but some quarters he doesn't sell ****. He questions everything, thinks he's mentoring the junior guys but they roll their eyes about him behind his back. Tons of personal drama that spills into work. You've had meetings about firing him but then he lands a big deal so you keep him around.

Jordan is the old sales guy who doesn't quite hit his numbers anymore but everyone likes him so you keep him around.

Dinwiddie is the dude who won't stop talking about crypto.

^^Good analogy Week! :D
I don't think the Nets are serious contenders after this. Too many primadonnas, and one of them doesn't really care about basketball at all. Their depth is gone, especially with Dinwiddie out. They can catch a lightining in a bottle, but otherwise they are gonna slip on some off-court-on-court drama. To bad Nash has to deal with this.

I really like Indiana after this trade. Not like they are contenders, but all their players seem to be hard working blue collar guys - ones who can really play basketball. Brogdon-Lavert-Warren-Sabonis-Turner is a rock solid lineup (if they'll start like that when Warren is back). McConnell/Holidayx2/Lamb/McDermott on the bench. They are a bit thin on bigs on the bench, but the Bitadze kid could help when he is back.

Even if the Nets didn't have Kyrie, I'd still consider them contenders.

Oh yeah. Durant alone can win a playoff game if he gets on a heater. Plus they will probably be able to snag a guy or two off the buyout market to help their D.

Allen plays hard though and one of the pros about him is that he has great motor. He’s like a bigger version of Holmes except a better FT shooter.

He’s consistent defensively and offensively and reliable night in and night out. I don’t watch that many Nets games but this is what I always see being said about him. Nets fans complain about his minutes being down but apparently it’s because DAJ was promised a certain amount of minutes when he signed with Brooklyn so they have to play him for that which limits Allen’s mins.

His contract is up 1 yr before Ayton which isn’t that big of a deal. If it was like a 3 or 4 yr difference then it would be more of a game changer. I think he may cost the same or less than what Ayton’s next contract will be.
