Randle vs. Porzingis

Post#1 » by RoxSteady » Thu Jan 14, 2021 2:03 pm

Most people would rather have Porzingis on their team, and that's a fair take. But I think it's worth pointing out that Randle (who came to NY through cap space freed up by the Porzingis trade, I believe) is only 9 months older than KP; has played in every game at an average of 37 mpg; and is averaging almost 23, 11, and 7. Probably playing better D than earlier in his career too.

The Knicks didn't sign KD and Kyrie; DSJ hasn't been good so far; the Mavs' picks the Knicks will receive likely will not be lottery picks; but think I think Randle's play makes the KP trade look a little better in retrospect and once again proves my theory that Frank Isola is always wrong:

I'd rather have Randle. KP is better defensively, Randle better offensively, by similar margins. But KP appears to have plateaued while Randle has found yet another level to his offensive game. Randle is also much more durable.

We could have both. But if Randle is a Knick for beyond the foreseeable future, I’d pick him because of a variable of reasons: will be a more team friendly contract, no health concerns, a willing passer.

It’s hard to say KP made him teammates better.

There’s no denying that KP has elite rim protection and shooting abilities. It’s tough, but I wouldn’t want the Knicks committed to KP contractually & watch him sit on the bench for 50% of every season.

It's funny he was labelled a unicorn, because they don't exist, just like his games played.

Randle easily. As they say "best ability is availability".

If Randle keeps playing like this, and is still the same guy when the team is ready to compete, I see no problem in taking him. KP has a lot of health issues, he is better, a great shooter and rim protector, the best combining these traits for me. But Randle is putting nice number with nice efficieny while being durable

Although we lost last night, Randle has a really good mid range shot. It’s a breath of fresh air in today’s NBA and actually entertaining to watch KD & Randle go mid range for mid range last night.

Tank commander vs. Unicorn.

Hard decision.

The most impressive part about Randle is that he’s putting up 23/11/7 while getting double and triple teamed hard every single game. When we had KP as the first option he struggled.

I watched the game, its true, its entertaining to see different shots with guys that can take them. Both guys were a joy watch

Let's not forget that the Mavs got the 3 best players in that trade

Great point but that’s what makes Randle so great. The willingness to pass. Imagine just in that department, in the willingness to pass department, imagine we could of turned up that attribute on Prime NYK Carmelo to 99. He would of averaged 8 APG

I suppose, but Luka ain’t winning with EITHER of those dudes. KP has a contract that will hinder DAL.

Porziņģis is much better player, Knicks should have kept him at all cost.

Randle. Good enough to be the third guy on a big three. Porzingis is good enough to be the second guy but if you can't count on the second guy to actually play you don't really have a big three.

Factoring health and contract in, Randle is the easy answer.

If/when they’re paid the same next year, I’d rather have Porzingis
