I'm guessing they wanted at least 3 picks and 2 swaps. Likely wanted more. I'm fine not giving up all that for a guy who didn't want to be here.

I say we trade my boredom for Kemba Walker. He'd be great on our team.

Nah, then asking for Smart was them overreaching.

yikes. They got Oladipo back. You know, one of the best two way SG in the entire league? The guy who made all-NBA? The guy averaging 20-6-4 and has proved he's "back" and healthy? And they received several first rounders.
And soon to be free agent this summer

Ainge declining was the right move. Sorry if it doesn’t go along with your narrative

Does he do anything well aside from defensive rebounding?
I'm not interested in Drummond but I wonder if it's just because I've heard Scal rip on him so many times. Maybe he's actually good for all I know.

He's about to be 36. A first is kinda bizarre for him. And he's looking for a new contract... I'm all for getting him, but not at the age of 36 for a first rounder and under contact for 40-50 more games.
Jae Crowder is still the name to beat in my mind. I mean I hope we can find someone even better, but he would help us out a lot as an 8th man. Suns will probably be too good to trade him, but he is the kind of guy I want if we can't swing some deal for another star.
Should have kept him and that BRK pick rather than deal with the egomaniac.. I loved Jae Crowder when he played for us and I agree, he would be a great piece off the bench for us
Eh, Jae is one of the most overrated role players in the league. He’s solid but overrated as a defender and a bad offensively player aside from the rare hot shooting season.

I “might” be interested in Drummond if he made $9-10 million per year but not at $28.5 million even for 1 year

I think everyone knows why Danny didn't wanna send Jaylen, even if some may disagree.
I think the real question for discussion is whether he should've done Kemba + Smart + some other young players + a boatload of picks. I think Ainge's answer essentially mirrors what other people here have said. He firmly believes that he needs to empty his clips when Tatum and Brown are at their peak powers.

HOU didn't want to take back money. They wouldn't have taken Kemba even if he's better (and healthier) than Oladipo.

Hornets are a good fit for Drummond if he's bought out. Upgrade over Biyombo, who should be a backup or even a third-string center. Zeller's still down. Carey and Richards are too green to help them win.

the Celtics would be making a big mistake if they use their TPE on a big man. And guess what??? Danny isn't going to do that. The current big man rotation of TT, DT, RW is solid as a rock.

Giving up two guys who want to be here who are really good for a guy that wants to be in Brooklyn and can leave in a year, is for sure a no brainer.
