HOU/NY - Dipo follow up

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Thu Jan 14, 2021 2:19 pm

New York receives Victor Oladipo

Houston receives Kevin Knox, DAL 1sts in 2021 and 2023, $16.5M TPE

New York leverages their cap space and get a big name player who wants to be in a big market apparently.
Houston gets out of the tax, gains flexibility and assets for the future, and take back Knox as a nice reclamation project.

I don't see the point of trading 2 first rounders for someone who will probably just leave at the end of the year.
Why rely on nuance, facts and logic when you can bludgeon the other side with mindless repetition of "Duuur McDaniel's has potential :tooth and still be treated as if you were reasonable.

Feels like a pretty big overpay for Oladipo. I think he's worth a non-lotto first (more if it's a team like Miami with a pretty certain shot at him sticking around).

This is 2 firsts and a kid who should still have some shine on him. I'd say 1/3 should be enough since there is no bad money going back to Houston.

As the Rockets don't own their picks, I don't think they're going to be in a hurry to move to Dipo.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Well they own 2022 and 2023, so it may make sense for them to trade him for more stuff and tank next year

We get our 2021 1st if it's top 4, and right now our pick is slotted at 4th.

The smart thing for Houston, would be to move Dipo, move Wall/Gordon if any team will take either of them for expirings, move Tucker/House for picks, and perhaps do Cousins a solid and waive him if he wants to be.

We should aim for a top draft pick, our current roster has no chance at being a playoff team, it has no future. The question is, do we want to ensure OKC is gifted a mid-late lotto, or do we want to go for the chance of getting a super value draft pick. The answer is an easy one to me
