85 minutes of Dame and CJ, Simons a DNP-CD. GM still thinks we don't need a backup PG?

Posted this on the trade board, but Hood + Simons for George Hill sounds really good right about now.

I really liked Hood on his prior stint with us....don't know if it's the time off or the achilles, but he's been abysmal.

I wouldn’t trade simons for hill at this point.

Hood’s unguarabteed money makes him good trade bait and I think he still recovers but it may take half a season. Still I think he’s more a versatile player than hill

A few notes from the game
Nurkic was a lot more involved, he needs to facilitate more like a couple of season ago. His at the rim finishing has been off so far.

Is it me or every team seems to kill us on the 3 point line. Blazers defense in the second half was some of the best in a long time.

One of Hood or Melo is expendable if need be, hood needs a bit more playing time to be effective. Having said that, it's good to have depth

This was probably his best game of the season so far, but most of it came late. He has yet to really have a signature, tip to buzzer type dominant game. That being said, I do think he is starting to look better lately. Especially on the defensive end. In JAN his DRTG is 107 vs 117 in DEC. I think him getting back to being the defender he was in 18/19 is more important than getting his offense back on track. I am optimistic that it all comes together with time. He is coming off injury and I have a sneaking suspicion that he may have had too much fun this summer as he clearly wasnt in game shape to start the season.

With the way the NBA is trending, it seems like every team kills every team from the 3PT line lol

I think Melo is nearly untradable unless he gives the OK. The image of moving a twilight Melo to a non-contender just looks really bad and certainly would rub Dame wrong. We just need 3PT catch / shoot Melo not try-to-be-2012-Melo.

Hood on the other hand is probably the only salary ballast we have. He has looked horrible, which is sad. But moving him with Simons or Little for a win-now piece would be my choice. I brought up George Hill, but there are a few options. I do like Hill more than someone like Rose who needs the ball to be effective. George can shoot, defend and facilitate. He would be huge for us, and help keep the guard duos minutes down.

Yea... I'm kind of tired of the stagnant roster as well. I had higher hopes this year, but we're forgoing playing time for guys who can still make leaps in favor of the corpses of Rodney Hood and Carmelo Anthony. The team has felt fairly rudderless for a while stuck in the no-man's land of trying to decide whether it wants to be competitive now, or develop for the future.

Ugh, Hood has been utter garbage this year. At least Melo gets hot every once in awhile. He's shooting an abysmal 21/23. Hopefully he gets back into the swing of things.

Yeah, I wonder what he could return at the trade deadline.

It's extremely difficult to defend the 3 these days, especially since every team is loading up on shooters. You can't cover them all without leaving 1 guy alone in the paint to try to stop any penetration. Thus why every team is going to the tactic of jacking up 3's and trying to get the best shooters. Now can defense be better for this team? Sure, but trying to make a team shoot poorly from 3 is rough for even the best defensive teams.

Back in the old days teams would have 1-2 guys that could light it up from 3 at best and even then they wouldn't rely on that shot unless they were down big. **** it's almost getting to the point where a 3 point shot is the most important attribute of any player, and the only players that get away without having a good one are big men.

Its absolutely already at that point IMO. If you cant shoot, and you play any position other than C, your value is greatly decreased.
