Re: Official 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Garnett might be a better comparison for Mobley. He's a very good defender, plus he plays with fire.RookieStar wrote:Let's see where we are half-way through the season..as much as I wanna tank all the way.. I don't know what is going on with the league right now when title contenders ( Lakers/Clips/Bucks) somehow managed to lose 10-20 pt leads in the 4th quarter.
Our record might surprise us ( for good or bad depending which side you are on )
P.S. anyone watching Mobley right now?

There are a lot that compares him to KG. For me though, what separates KG is that you knew he has that "wiry strength" meaning he might be stick-thin but you know his bones (lol) is strong and willing to be physical. Mobley for now hasn't shown me that yet. Skills-wise though..wow

Re: Official 2021 NBA Draft Thread
I've avoided scouting Mobley mostly because I'm tired of drafting bigs, but he looks like the perfect modern big. Shades of Bam/AD with good range out to the 3pt line. The sort of guy who would play well alongside a strong wing like LeBron, Butler, Doncic or Murray.
If we drafted another big at the top of the lottery I'd want us to clear room for them.

Suggs looks legit to me. True franchise player material. I want us to go all in on getting him somehow. Need some lotto luck for sure.

I like watching Cade and Jalen Suggs so far. Moody from Arkansas is interesting as a shooter. Im excited to see Kumunga and Green when the g-leauge starts playing. This is a good draft at the top with lots of good fits for us.
Dissapointed with BJ Boston from Kentucky he is falling.

Jalen Green is the one I want, but any pick in the Top 5 would be great.

Who is this dude ? Looks like first round pick to me, didnt hear about him at all.
Is he better or worse than Mo (brother im assuming? maybe cousin?)
Because Mo was a beast at michigan, lead them to the ncaa championship game while averaging 15/7 at 6'11 and shooting 40% from 3 and yet he was a late first round pick who really hasnt done much the past 2 years

Let’s fire this up. Who’s our best fit in top 5 picks?

Re: Official 2021 NBA Draft Thread
After a strong start, we now sit in a deep tie for the #15 spot and just 3 games ahead of the #2 spot.
The tide can turn very quickly in either direction in a shortened season if we do not commit to an agenda.
We must accept the inevitable and tank.
A top 3 lottery spot is within our grasps and if the draft gods are good, so to will be a draft pick.

It is really hard to answer that with incomplete information. Questions still unanswered:
1) We haven’t seen Green or Kuminga. Are they as good as advertised?
2) Is Fultz our PG of the future?
3) Can Isaac stay healthy?
4) Are we keeping Vuc? / Is Mobley more a PF or C?
... ultimately, question #1 is most important as regardless of the answers to the others I think we are all convinced that while they might be key pieces to the puzzle, none of Fultz, Isaac or Vuc are Franchise Stars. So none are good enough to dictate our draft strategy. If we believe Suggs, Cade, Green, Mobley or whoever is the next great super star we must draft them no matter who is on our roster.

Re: Official 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Actually IMO, because we haven't seen green yet so we don't know how/what he is.. the perfect fit for us if we are tanking or not, we have Fultz or not, we acquire a SF/SG or not is Cade.
Think about it.. 6'8 Luka-skill meaning ball hanlder , finisher and can shoot the 3. So even if Fultz is our long-term PG Cade can still play along because he is 6'8 and can fit in the SG/SG spot. If Fultz is still injured we can make him the primary ballhandler and have Cole just be the shooter/scorer in the PG like Seth Simmons scenario. Also even if we acquire a wing via Evan/AG trade he can also fill in the other wing role.
Other is Suggs. He can also play alongside Fultz because he is 6'4, can finish ( he is strong ) and can shoot as well as a ballhandler. If Fultz isn't ready then he can take over the PG on offense and have Cole be the PG on defense.
Green.. well his reputation is a scorer and finisher more refined and better than the two above. Not that great as a PG/Ball handler though. BUT again, this is just talk, we haven't seen him play again.
The consolation prizes are Kuminga and Mobley. I prefer Mobley then Kuminga.

To kick start sucessful rebild, trading Fultz for whatever and finding funcional PG who's game isn't stuck in 2003 mid range jumpshot era, is pivotal.
Fultz should be viewed as non existing blank spot on roster going forward in rebuild. As soon as opportunity presents itself to trade him, pull the trigger. He had nothing going for him before he got hurt. His playmaking was as basic as it got from starter, he shot 25%-27% for 3 and his mid range game got worst over time. He also always sucked on defense but nobody wanted to talk about it. During his first year, you know, only one where he was actually playing and healthy, he was reguarlly worst PG than DJ Augustin. All Magic worst lineups inlcuded- Fultz. All Magic best lineups- included his replacment.
I would use same approach to Isaac. He never plays. it's irrelevant what he offers in 1 of 4 games at average he plays.
So, if we somehow luck ourself into Suggs or Chad, it's pivotal to kickstart SUCESFULL rebuild. Not attach rebuild to half baked- modern days Payton /Gordon type prospects that etiher have no talent or never play to make impact.
I think right thing to do is allow this front office to ride out on Gordon, Ross and Evan trades, than fire them as soon as season is over and head team to somebody younger and with vision of modern basketball. Weltman and Hammond failed. They are pushing 70s. Time to retire.

If the Magic ever get the luck to draft top 5 this year, "fit" is the last thing on my mind. I'll draft Mobley without hesitation and trade Vucevic away in a hot second.

Your answer is based on fit.
Your answer is a perfect example of the absolute worst way to approach a high draft selection.
