Re: 2021 49ers offseason
Demeco Ryans joined the 49ers coaching staff the same year that Saleh did. I believe his first year here was also his first foray into coaching.
So I would think that Ryans will run a 4-3 base with similar schematics to what Saleh ran here. I also agree with the notion that its likely that Ryans has been being groomed to take over for at least a year and Kyle is very aware of what he can bring to the table.
Hopefully Demeco can come up with a better plan on how to stop QB's from shredding the 49ers with their legs.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
I love Saleh & still do but I’m kind of happy for a change of defensive philosophy. Saleh’s defense doesn’t work against mobile QB’s, even with a healthy Bosa guys like Mahomes, Russ & Murray still had their way with us in 2019. It’s time for something new heading into 2021
And sheesh what’s up with Deshaun Watson commenting on a Niners fan page on IG? Man if that doesn’t scream “I want to go there” then idk what else, only thing is offseason is still a minute away & the Texans still have a lot of time for them to kill their friction between each other but if they do trade him... So long Jimmy G, Mostert & draft picks, we’re getting the 2nd best Young QB in the league & he’s only 25 years old. I say he’s worth giving up picks.

I can imagine that Deshaun Watson would salivate at the chance to play in a Kyle Shanahan offense. And I can imagine that guys like Kittle, Deebo and Aiyuk would love to see Watson in their huddle. Just not sure Watson would be thrilled with some of our offensive linemen.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
As Dr3am mentioned Watson responded with "dope pic (100 emote)" to an instagram picture with him sporting a Montana jersey. He also posted some pro 49er tweets during the Harbaugh era. So it could all be much ado about nothing, but then again Watson might be very attracted to becoming the next 49ers QB.
Watson does have a no trade clause, so if he is indeed done with the Texans and wants a trade out, the above "evidence" could lead us to believe that the 49ers might be the only or one of the very few destinations he would accept. In such a scenario, ideally Frisco is the only team he wants to go to. In which case the price would become a lot more palpable.
Watson wouldn't care about Houston getting back value as he would be out their door, but he would care about what his new team will be sending out. He wouldn't want his new team to be sending out their next 3 1st round picks as that will obviously hamstring the ability for his new team to build around him. So, what is being sent out might be a factor in him approving a trade or not.
So long story short, maybe Frisco can get Watson for something along the lines of #12 + '21 4th rounder + '22 3rd rounder from the Saleh departure. In which case it'd be a no brainer. Certainly not fair value fo4lr Houston, but as alluded to earlier this might not come down to a situation of fair value.
Of course this is all highly unlikely, but Watson's no trade clause + his seemingly attraction to the 49ers make it an interesting discussion.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
Besides whatever assets they’d have to trade to acquire him, Watsons huge contract means they will lose some players who are free agents.
Or what about in a couple of years scrambling to open up cap space to sign Bosa to a big deal if NFL revenues don’t recover fast enough to have the cap go up? It may be difficult to have two large contracts on the DL in addition to a humongous cap number at QB and then having to extend other good players on the roster.

But that’s the thing about winning Super Bowls, guys like Bosa, Trent Williams, Juice, etc. wouldn’t mind taking pay-cuts playing alongside a guy like Deshaun.. Personally I don’t blame them exploring FA with Jimmy G at the helm.. even before his injuries he played like **** in Week 1 against the Cards... his only good game was against the Rams & hell we beat them with freaking Nick Mullens at the helm.

49ers promote Run-Game Coordinator Mike McDaniel to Offensive Coordinator, LB Coach DeMeco Ryans to Defensive Coordinator, and Assistant OL Coach Chris Foerster to OL Coach. 49ers hire Rich Scangarello as QB Coach.
OL Coach John Benton was hired by the Jets.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
There was some talk that McDaniel might get hired as OC by the Hawks. So maybe Kyle decided to preempt that.
But I wonder who will really draw up the plays and the game plans, him or his new OC?

McDaniel was the run game coordinator and almost certainly had a major role the game plan side of things.
The question with McDaniel is if he's another Greg Roman being excellent with the run game and garbage with the passing attack. If that's the case at least Kyle is there to oversee that aspect of the game.
But I tend to believe he's probably capable of handling the passing game or I think Kyle would've still give McDaniel the OC spot to not lose him but brought on a guy that can serve as a passing game coordinator.
So my guess is his role will expand but the setup really isn't any different from than any other team that has a strong offensive minded head coach like the Chiefs, Packers, Rams, etc.

I don’t see much of a change, he and Kyle will still work together for game planning. Possibly Rick and Wes will join to help with the passing stuff on Sunday Kyle will call the plays with input from Mike. This was the formula used before and it’ll really just be, who helps fill Mike LaFleur’s shoes.

If this is accurate, short of NYJ & Miami both not being interested in making a move for Watson, this all but kills the chances of Frisco getting Watson. It was probably never all that realistic anyways.
Watson this week told people the Jets are his top preference among the teams he’d like to be traded to because they hired Robert Saleh to be their coach and Watson values Saleh so much he wanted the Texans to interview him for their vacant head coach job.
Watson confirmed reports, circulated for several weeks in national media, he’d also welcome playing for the Dolphins but said that is his second choice at this time.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
Not sure how to feel about this.
His Giants defenses were awful across the board, but his prior stint with the Cardinals was very solid throughout. He was also out of coaching entirely this past season, although I'm not sure if that was by choice or not.
Who knows how much influence he's going to have, but I suppose they could have done worse with getting Ryans some experience to lean on.

Looks like Stafford and Lions will part ways. Wonder if we will explore or not

I see Deshaun Watson is happy with being a loser the rest of his life, no way he gets pasts Mahomes or Allen in the AFC joining the Jets or Dolphins.
I don’t want Stafford, sorry. His 2020 campaign was no different from Jimmy G’s 2019 campaign so I wouldn’t call getting him an “upgrade”

It would be nice to have a QB who could make any of these 20+ yard throws we're seeing today.

So is that another way of saying you want Stafford?

In a vacuum, I'd take him over Garoppolo in a heartbeat. But it would depend on the cost in picks and salary. I'm pretty done with Garoppolo. I don't think he has "it."

He shouldn't cost anywhere near the price that Watson will cost and I think he'd be a better option going forward for that simple fact.... I think Stafford could play 4‐5 high level years here... he's obviously better than Jimmy and definitely would open up our playbook to the level not seen since Matt Ryan was Shannys qb in ATL.....Btw I'd prefer Watson all things equal which i know they aren't.....
Comparing playoff wins and stats ignore the ineptitude of the Detroit lions organization so that's apples to oranges comparison... I'd prefer high level rookie over a vet simply from cost standpoint but trading Jimmy then trading for Stafford if you're lucky doesn't require a first could upgrade at similar salary cost.... I'm just tired of the FO taking the quarterback position for granted.... The best ones are usually drafted in the first round... we haven't drafted a first rounder since Alex like a decade and a half ago.....We need a qb who can make plays in the clutch.... We've been lacking that even when we went to the Super Bowl.....

He can't even stay on the field enough for the offense to build real consistency.
