Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
We still have a very small sample size especially for a new team with a rookie coach. Brown didn't even play in first 6/7 games. Shamet had a pretty terrible start. DJ is totally useless. Nash made some coaching mistakes that did cost the team some losses (not playing Allen enough and not playing Brown at all) but that's expected from a rookie coach. Those who watch Nets games know all of this.
I did watch Durant closely in both OKC and GSW and I can comfortably say he looks as good as ever so far with the Nets. If he stays healthy, you will still see the best Durant.

If you’re talking about 2017 I would expect his impact to be pretty low for pretty obvious reasons lol
You’re taking an offense built around dynamic movement and off ball options and durants more of a safety valve to give them consistency. I’m pretty sure that played out pretty well in the playoffs
I don’t really like impact metrics for playoff runs (also keep in mind kick adjustment only reverts to average on defense, not openness and stuff like that) but im pretty sure KD shows up as top of the league tier in impact metrics for his golden state runs
I'm talking about 2021 my guy.
Are you talking about the shotcharts rapm?
That’s still not surprising since the nets till before the trade were a solid offensive team without their stars, but your using rapm for a sample of 10 games lol

I expect a lot of overreaction and hot takes after the game between the Nets and the Bucks tonight, good or bad.

We should give the winner a ring if it’s a blowout and if it’s close both won’t make the playoffs

Agreed. It will be painful.
Nets win: "best team in the league! Guaranteed title! Just give it to them" lol.
Bucks win: "Nets are so overrated. They aren't reaching the finals"
Both these teams will contend and nothing will be easy at all. Nothing is guaranteed. While I love the Nets' potential, Lakers are still reasonably the faves to win it all given they are they defending champs and have a complete team already. Nets still improving their team with new signings. They need a center badly.

At this point, I don't think many teams will trade for Kyrie unfortunately lol. He is too unpredictable. Woj said that was a big factor in them going hard for Harden in the first place which makes sense. Harden actually shows up always lol. But yeah, that would be a good trade for the Nets. Simmons is a great defensive player and can play the Dray role. They might actually pull the trigger with a Kyrie trade if this problematic behavior continues for long but even then I'm not sure many teams would want him or give much for him. This is also one of the reasons why Lakers are the safe bet for sure.

Is it just me or has Lopez's rim protection really slipped this year?

Once the Nets clean up the turnovers they really are going to be such a nightmare to defend. Kyrie will actually fill an important void on the team, the offense was stagnating quite a bit when Harden was on the bench. Another superstar ballhandler will let them pressure teams all game long.

Never fails. Every single time you watch Harden, he is visibly better at offense than damn near everyone ever except like a few guys.
KD is smooth and cool, Harden is just a titanic engine of pure unbelievable pressure on a defense.

Agreed. Harden is a basketball genius. Him and KD have ridiculous potential as a duo. So fun to watch.

What is Harden's history makes you think the turnovers will get cleaned up? I mean, he's led the league in turnovers 6 of the last 8 years.

Sample size and all, but apparently up until the harden durant's PIPM was 25th. Not sure what the most recent data is.

Bucks' defense perplexes me. Way too much drop coverage...Harden was just strolling in for floaters like it was practice. And why do they just put Giannis on the corner 3? They're not utilizing him very much.

Man, I thought this might be Portlands best team in a while, but damn is luck not on their side, Nurkic/CJ both out for a bit.

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
Kept hearing "imagine what Giannis is gonna do to this Nets defense"...turns out he was held in check for the most part. Yeah, he put up numbers, but it was a struggle for most of the night, and he was hitting shots at an unusually high rate (33% from 3, 75% from the line, hitting a few midrange jumpers too). All in all, he didn't exactly dominate, and the Bucks defense couldn't stop the Nets at all.
Main issue for the Nets isn't even their defense imo. It's their TOs. They out rebounded them and outshot them from all areas of the court. Harden and Durant got whatever they wanted, despite pressuring defense from Holiday and Middleton. But they committed 17 TOs to the Bucks' 5. That's the main reason it was close. Harden had 6 TOs in the 1st half alone (none in the 2nd half though), while Deandre Jordan had 5 TOs (that's unusual). Clearly, they need to develop better chemistry as the season goes on, but it's scary to think they can be even more efficient offensively with some easy fixes, and it would certainly help the defense too.
