The 2021 draft is supposed to be better than the 2020 draft.

Damn, I was hoping this was just a sprain especially with how good CJ was looking this year.

I saw that he will be reevaluated in 4 weeks. That may mean something like he is in a boot for 4 weeks and then gets reevaluated for movement. We'll see though.

Bummer for CJ and for the franchise. This is like the third time he's injured that foot....
In a way it is somewhat fortuitous that all of Nurkic, CJ and Collins are all out as it makes it a lot easier to semi-intentionally tank in such a strong draft.

A good thing that draft pick has lotto protection.
Hopefully Denver and Dallas come good if we're going to suck for a while

I realize he has a ugly reputation but could the Cav's Porter Jr turn it around in Portland with a leader like Dame? Maybe a 2 way contract?
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

By all accounts the Cav's have really tried to help him get his life back on track and were not successful. It seems like lots of young, talented kids that become instantly rich have a lot of trouble adjusting. He has had several incidences that have not resulted in much punishment (charges dropped) and it appears he has not learned anything from them. Hope he gets his life together, but please not with the Blazers.
IMO, we have lots of young talent that would benefit from more playing time.

No interest in bringing someone with as little emotional maturity as Porter Jr into the mix.
This sucks. CJ has been better than Dame this year.

Stotts must limit Lillard's minutes to 34-36. If not, show him the door.

Ouch, this news hurts. It's just enough time for Damian to wear himself out trying to sneak us into the playoffs so we can hand Houston a late teens pick.
It's also why you don't expect your two best scorers to also play double duty with the PG duties. Everyone and anyone saw that was a problem just waiting to happen. Now there is a whole heap of pressure on a very unproven Simons with no other options.
I guess Nurkics now "unlikely" bonus gives us a little more flexibility.

I like Jones but I was wondering at the time he was signed if Rondo would have been a better choice. Portland has needed a competent backup PG since Steve Blake
I don't believe Nurkic's bonuses are counting against the cap. I think Bobby Marks was wrong (and sure, it could be me that's wrong). Those bonuses are re-set every off-season. They were likely bonuses last season because Nurkic hit the marks the season before. But if I'm reading the CBA Faq's right, they are unlikely this season because Nurkic didn't hit the marks last season
* "All performance incentives are re-evaluated at the start of each season to determine whether they should be classified as likely or not likely to be achieved3"
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q74
which would mean there's no margin to be had here
if I'm assuming right, the only options Portland has for adding players and staying under the tax is either trades or filling the two open two-way contract slots (NBA added a third because of Covid)

If the injuries have to happen, I'm glad all of the injuries are occurring at the same time but for a different reason. I still think this team will make the playoffs. Worst case, probably a 7th or 8th seed that gets gentleman swept by the Lakers/Clippers. Injuries happening early in the season hopefully means that they're healthy entering the playoffs, which would obviously be the opportune time to try to make a run and avoid an early 1st round exit.

If the Blazers were going to dumpster dive, I'd love to see them bring in Isaiah Thomas on a ten day contract. Best case, he can ball and fills the weakness we have at guard with CJ out. Worst case, his recovery ends up similar to Brandon Roy's Minnesota stint, but the Blazers are only out $50k. Seems so low risk, high reward that there's no chance Portland does it.

I don' know that 10-days can be signed yet...maybe
but it could be too early in the year because of how close Portland is to the tax line
two-way contracts may be better options at this point

It is too early to sign a 10-day contract player. Maybe the Blazers can sign Skal and Shabazz to two-way contracts. Losing CJ royally sucks. Now the Blazers are out 2 (possibly 3) starters. BAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would Thomas really sign a two way contract, though? He's trying to attempt an NBA comeback, so he'd likely want to be around the team as much as possible - impress them and not the Rio Grande Vipers. And if it didn't work out, he'd be free to sign another ten day with another team. Plus there's the ego involved in being a player that had the success that Thomas did agreeing to play in the g-league. Just doesn't seem likely.
Good point about the January 5th date for ten day contracts likely moving due to the altered season. Didn't think about that.

What's this? A blazer having a career year? May you be smitten! #AngryBasketballGods
I guess we'll get to see Gary Trent get more minutes. It'll be interesting to see how much their offense suffers without CJ. Relative to this year, it should suffer because he was shooting lights out.

His shooting percentage is only slightly better. The biggest difference is he is shooting more.

His 3PT% is up 6.2%. That may not look like much, but its a very big leap.
But its not just his shooting. He is never turning the ball over (1 TO vs career 1.7), he is passing better (5.0 APG vs 3.2 career), he is getting to the line at a slightly better rate, he is posting his best WS48 (.223 vs career .107), he is posting his best OBPM (7.7! vs 2.1 career), he has an absurd ORTG of 128 (Career 111), +15 On/Off (Career +3.2).
He was having a Stephen Curry level season on offense, or at lease a very near Stephen Curry season on offense.
The dude was balling and clearly our best player so far this year. The team is going to really, really struggle without him. Much more than without Nurkic.
