The problem wasn't Lou and Trezz, it was our depending on them for 36 points every night. And also playing them together, lol--they're both indifferent defenders and that doubles your trouble.

But each guy won us games. Ideally, they're your x-factor, your Plan B to steal a game you probably deserve to lose. I think the Lakers are quite pleased to have Trezz, and I'm sure Lou will win steal us some Ws too. But you'd rather they be your 4th or 5th highest scorers, not your 3rd.

As our 3rd-highest paid player you'd certainly like to see Senior move up to #3 and Kennard move up too.

Trezz is doing pretty good on the Lakers but he would be feasting if he would've signed with Charlotte. I've been watching some of their games as of late. They're short on bigs so he would be starting, double the money, and LaMelo Ball would be feeding him assist after assist after assist. But its not LA and they're not a championship contender even tho they are in playoff contention.

You were complaining that the coaching staff and front office has remnants of Doc Rivers after the loss.

Does this sound any where close to doc?

It all genuinely sounds nice, but I'm not fully trusting anyone from the Doc tree until we get past the second round.

If they had offered him more than the MLE, he'd be there. Trezz hasnt gotten PAID yet in NBA terms, lol. But he's not an NBA starting center either. Too short, bad D, indifferent rebounder. He landed in the perfect place, IMO, and that includes not being paired with Lou. You can hide one bad defender and the Lakers can and will. His energy seems to be just what they need and want.

And that said, Serge only got the MLE too. IMO they both ended up where they fit best.

PG playing old man game since he joined us that had me scared he doesn't have the juice anymore. Nice to see he still has it.

Technically he's not from the Doc tree though. He's actually from the Phil Jackson tree. He was only with Doc 7-8 months. Sam Cassell, Thibs, Lawrence Franks, etc are from the Doc Rivers tree.

Weren't his first two coaching jobs with the Celtics and then he came along to the Clippers in Doc's first season? Now that doesn't mean he has the same coaching style or philosophies.

LaMelo/ Trezz game would be pretty sweet, to be honest. Lou and Trezz were a great feature combo when we were a gritty underdog, bottom seed level-type team, but flawed once we had greater aspirations.

On a side note, LaMelo is doing much better than I expected. His floor vision and assist game is on point.

Sometimes I wonder how much a coaching tree really affects a coach's style and philosophy... I think in the case of strong tacticians/X's and O's, that would be something that carries over, but even that isn't guaranteed. Dwayne Casey was from the Carlisle tree, but he wasn't a good tactician, and relied heavily on iso ball. Then you have Nurse, who was under Casey, and he was nothing like Casey...

I wouldn't even know what traits Lue would even inherit from Doc... The biggest differences I've noticed so far, are the effective use of timeouts, and better lineups/adjustments. Also, the start of the 4th quarters are usually pretty good, so it seems he's able to get the guys to refocus in the locker room.

Can't accept the premise in these discussions. The NBA is not the NFL. Coach does not call every play or every defense up and down the floor. It's not chess. It's closer to soccer, constantly improvising. Jazz, not a symphony. In the NFL, the playbook is The Bible. In the NBA, it's what they call a "fakebook"--the chords, the outlines. The rest is up to you.

In the NFL, the coach is the conductor of the symphony. Miss your cues and your required notes and you're fired. In jazz, in the NBA, it's all about putting the ball in the hole. Improv. The more ways you can figure out how to get it in there, the better you are.

You can train any bunch of drones to play defense by the book. But the beauty of the NBA game is that the book changes constantly.

__________

ADD: The Bucks-Nets game tonight was interesting. Very physical. The book might have just changed again. We better be ready.

Doc is a lemon tree. The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.
But Lue is an apple and no lemon. :)
