How is NOP not starting Josh Hart?
Also I will absorb Bledsoe for assets. Expires right in time for 2023

If we were smart we’d be trying to make the Pelicans & Thunder are best friends when it comes to trades.
Tons of assets to pick from.

We could emulate that. Acquire picks along with big contracts of players that are still very serviceable like Bledsoe.
I think of Harrison Barnes or Kevin Love in that context, but there are probably more. Cleveland is probably fine with Love, but I could see Sacramento wanting to move Barnes.

Kira got too much hype pre-draft. I'm so happy we got IQ instead.

I wasn't the biggest fan pre-draft. But I don't think you can say anything about him yet. He went to an awful situation with Bledsoe and Ball there.

I dont know If The Pelicanos would pay tô move Bledsoe. He is servicable and i doubt they Will use cap space next offseason.
With Bledsoe. The Pelicans owe next season 89m. Plus They haver the cap hold of RFA lonzo (27m) e Hart (10M). If they keep lonzo and Hart, dumping Bledsoe could not give them more cap space..
There are few star players avaliable in The FA market and The Pelicans are not an atratctive team.

those minutes aren't available tho. Thibs is who he is. he's not changing. he'll play his starters as long as he needs to get the W
+ Thibs has also shown he want rim protection on the floor, so the minutes at C are mostly taken up between Mitch/Noel
Payton has played 20 and 23 minutes in 2 out of the last 3 games. He and QUickley are sharing the minutes. Can't see the issue there.
Payton is a different situation. his minutes are inconsistent because he's been outperformed by a rookie and b/c his fit w/ this roster is awful since he can't shoot. he shouldn't even be starting, but Thibs loves his vets
W/ Randle playing well, Thibs will continue to play him heavy minutes, as evidenced by playing 39 minutes in the 2nd game of a back-to-back
Not all true. Payton has been showing signs of being quite a good finisher and his defense has been very good to great. The penetrations into the paint by opposing guards is directly impacted by Robinson's presence, but the point guards (particularly Payton/Rivers) are doing a great job preventing them. His size and strength is huge plus and drives to the basket have been surprisingly good.
Payton, regardless of all the bullsht he gets here, has been a key part to our turn-around and with Quickley are forming a pretty good 1 - 2 punch.
If Payton gets moved, I'm not certain if that will not leave a big hole at the point, as you can tell I'm for making the playoffs.
As for Randle, he had 20 and 17 boards, what can you possibly be complaining about? Obi is not full ready to begin playing 25+ minutes, plus Noel is playing well as a backup and Randle is our All-star. What all-star caliber player doesn't get big minutes? Durant coming off a major career threatening injury is playing similar amounts of minutes as Randle.

I just don't understand the thinking at all with the bench. This 38-40 PLUS minutes while young players...who have shown they can contribute...are buried behind these one year scrubs. I don't care what position it is. Payton/Bullock/Rivers shouldn't be getting more than 15-18mpg.
No one saw Randle breaking out like this...but ..still....40 minutes a night on back to backs...72 games?
Thibs is on crack with his rotations.
We would not have this start without Randle or Payton. Meaning we have a top defense and in the mix for a playoff birth. Thibs don't give a sht about being on crack or coconut water, he's making the playoffs.
Obi played 23 minutes in the first game against Indiana, which has been the norm for rookies, then he got nicked. Given the goal to reach the playoffs, the rookies have to contribute to that cause or they are not playing. Simple.
This is not a tanking season. If it happens so be it, but that's not the goal. Thank goodness cause the losing is tiring.
What are you talking about? Don't play the apologist role. Playing guys 40 plus minutes a night is ridiculous. End of story. This isn't a contender and it shouldn't be playoffs or bust with dudes being ignored in the bench while others get ground into dust. The short rotations are as dumb as it gets. It is not sustainable.
Show me who else should be getting Randle's minutes. Also do you realize that Randle plays 30 minutes alsmost every other day! Thibs tries to give him staggered minutes but Obi has to be up to producing as well.
Talk facts, not just be emotional about things son.

Payton's shooting 54% at the rim (49% on layups) when league average is like 65%
Also, our defensive rating improves by 3 points when he's off the court.

Tons of assets to pick from.
Horford for example. OKC has no reason to just dump him but if we could get a decent asset to take him on, it could be a smart long term play.
A lot of the bad contracts in the league seem to expire by 2023 which could potentially be a monster FA class.

The expedited development of the kids plus the pressure to finally be good makes me think they’re spending all the money and all the assets this summer.

Also fun fact, Randle has a -3 Net rating when Payton is on the court, and a +11 when he's off
With a +10 when Quickley is on the court.

No
Burks has a +30 with him on and a +7 with him off, but they only played like 20 minutes together so I don't think it counts
Closest is Rivers who has played 120 minutes with Payton, but it's the difference between -9.3 and -9.1. So basically the same
Literally every other guy with over 50 minutes played has done better with Payton off than on.

Re: Around the NBA: Hezi vs Melo
Elfrid Payton is the new Lance Thomas except with a 22.8 usage rate (which thankfully has decreased since the start of the season).
I think the only rationale for keeping him in the starting line-up is that the team has good chemistry right now and the locker room is happy, and Thibs doesn't want to mess with that. But if Payton is such a good teammate, he shouldn't have any issues being relegated to the bench with his resume. He doesn't really have the credibility to become a malcontent and threaten the peace.
Knicks really painted themselves in a corner with this signing. Let's see what happens when Burces comes back, hopefully Thibs takes the opportunity to shake things up a bit.
*I understand that Thibs likes Payton's size defensively but it's just not translating into positive impact.
