The Rockets were done the second they let him go. Very weird move on their part

Search Capela on the trade board. I don't think you will be surprised by how many low ball offers have been posted since the Hawks stole him for an expiring, 20ish 1st, and a 2nd.

He may have his best season to date. Some of that is all him, and some is being fed by Trae.

Ya. I never understood that. Harden, CP3, Capela was their Big 3.

At 26, he was their best young asset. Wanting Covington over Capela was weird. But I have never thought of Covington as someone that puts a team over the top. So far, I am right.

Another player I have receipts of saying was a huge get for Atlanta and a dumb trade for Houston. He's only 26. He didn't just magically forget how to play after being such a huge piece in the Rockets runs a couple years ago. Very happy for Clint, he addressed a lot of Atlanta's weaknesses. Now we just need Trae to get back on track and stop turning the ball over and find his flow.

Too tall he was. Same with Hartenstein. Small ball or die trying.

The Rockets actually played much better team defense after they traded Capela last season because it allowed them to switch everything in their system. And they basically turned Capela into Christian Wood and two 1st round picks (via Covington) so I’m pretty sure they’re not too upset with how it worked out.

Capela did a great post game interview last night. He called the Hawks his team. He seems to know he is wanted and appreciated. Trae gave total props to Capela and Collins for last nights game. He said with the way the bigs are playing the sky is the limit.

they were getting killed on the boards, I think adjusting extra possessions, I doubt they were better at defense. I appreciate that they tried something different, honestly they had no shot with Capela, so at least they tried something revolutionary, even tho it was stupid, and we all knew its not gonna work, they had even less of a shot after that trade and we all knew that to be honest. But they tried something.

I think that trade has to be looked at as a win now move. But nothing to put Houston over the top of anyone. We need to remember Capela was hurt and the Hawks shut him down for the season after the trade. Covington was at least healthy and could play. It was still a short sighted trade in my opinion.
Good luck trying to catch lightning in a bottle again with a 14 and 14 defensive rim runner with a late pick.

I agree that they should have never traded him. To play devil's advocate, he was awful against GSW the last time he played them in the playoffs before getting shipped out - but they should've stuck with him because he was young and their only true big.

They actually weren’t getting killed on the boards, primary because they had 2 of the best rebounding guards in NBA history. They were 15th in rebounding with Capela and 20th without him. And the rebounding differential against their opponents was only a slight negative after the trade. Also defensive rebounding is worked into defensive efficiency numbers where they were stronger without Capela.
Like you said, it was an experiment to play a different style, and I don’t think they would have gone any further with Capela then they did without him. Especially since Capela was injured and almost certainly wouldn’t have been available for the playoffs. This was likely a big reason on why they traded him and went all in with small ball.

Trae has 15 teammates of which 10 or more are active. He had 10 assist last night. So that means Capela got 1/5 of Trae's assist. The game before he had 13 assist. So Capela got almost 1/6 of Trae's assist.
Without digging any deeper, I would say Trae is distributing the ball pretty well among his teammates. If that is a problem for you, I don't agree. I like it a lot.

Nice strawman. I never said it was a problem. I factually pointed out that Trae isn't "feeding" Capela.

Given the number of teammates Trae has and the number of assist Trae gets, he is feeding him. Just as much or better than anyone else on the team. Obviously he is not going to only feed Capela. That would be stupid and probably cause a riff on the team.

Actually, Huerter assisted Capela more than Trae over the past two. Stop trying to move goal posts. You said Capela looks amazing in part because of Trae feeding him. That's not true. Unless you think the extra 4 points a night (which any PG would provide), are why Capela looks so good...
