I also don't want us to get obsessed with trying to stop the Lakers.
I'm not convinced the Lakers get back to the Finals. I could definitely see the Clippers beating them this year.
They're not some unbeatable '17 Warriors type team.

My guess is Marks uses one of the slots soon, but holds the other two for buyout guys, hoping on Ariza, McGee, Robin Lopez, Rudy Gay and a few others.
Probably goes for one of RHJ or MKG and holds on the other spot.
Faried could be a good pickup, but his main things are rebounding and dirty work, yet he's a relatively poor defender. Wouldn't mind it by any means, but that slot could be better used in the near future.
Those spots can be cleared easily.... and there wont be hard feelings since these guys cant find jobs....
Like if you gave shumper two 10-day contracts or even a vet minimum and then cut them you gave him a shot to show he can sitll play and some cash. if you cut him later cause someone bought out a good player you need to sign, thats how it goes and they are better off for it too.
There is also some dead weight. with Harden here we dont need chiozza and TJ.
I think Faried is a need beyond his defense. Outside of DJ we really lack big athletes. Perry hustles but heisnt an above the rim player. and who knows if/when we will ever see claxton this year
Highly disagree with this. Even when Kyrie comes back and you can stagger more effectively, there will be rest games and the such. Durant by himself when Harden was on the bench exposed that we desperately need a 2nd ball handler with a bit of shot creating/playmaking ability. And these guys cannot be averaging 38+ mpg in the regular season. Both those guys can handle the ball, create a little and shoot reliably, without being abominations on defense. We don't need to add anymore ballhandlers, unless they're superior players to those two, but we also don't need to cut them for some ho hum, 8mpg, plays once every 3 games, mediocre 3&D guy.

I like TJ a lot. Don't care that much for Chiozza. I think TJ is a solid insurance option/backup/spot starter when it comes time to rest one of the big 3, especially Kyrie.

According to NetsDaily we have to fill 2 of our 3 open roster spots by Jan 30th.
Enough waiting, Sing the best backup C and defensive wing available.

Which probably increased the likelihood we sign Faried. I haven’t seen anyone else linked to the Nets since.
He has experience with Harden, D’antoni in Houston after his stint with us and the obvious NJ connection makes sense once again.
I’d rather Dedmon, though.

it may be in the works. it may be contract negorations. some of these guys may hold out for more then the minimum until the 30th knowing we have it

Re: How would you fill out the roster?
The rook Perry isn't ready for the big stage yet.
DJ has had 1-2 good games this entire season and hardly EVER finishes out game since he's a liability.
Losing the Fro HURT this team. We have nobody that can replace him on the roster.
We desperately need to either make a move or sign some bigs because we are just too small and our defense is suffering for it.

Re: How would you fill out the roster?
I think the best way to truly fill out this roster is by trading Kyrie. It’s just a weird fit having 3 scoring ball handlers doing the same stuff on offense. You’re not getting rid of Harden or Durant, so Kyrie is the odd man out.
And you could seriously upgrade the roster at positions of need.
As someone who followed Harden here from Houston, that 2017-18 team went 50-5 when Harden, Chris Paul, and Clint Capela played. They were absolutely torching teams.
If you put Harden and Durant with a capable big man and spend your money in the front court instead of a redundant manner at a guard position with Kyrie, this team will then start realizing their potential.

Unless he goes completely off the rails, the chances of Sean Marks trading Kyrie, nevermind pissing Kevin Durant off, are zero.

MKG or RHJ
KOQ, Dedmon, Faried or Chandler
I'd personally take RHJ and Chandler

I'd def go RHJ but I feel like Chandler is done. Dedmon makes the most sense since he actually played minutes last year and is relatively young.

Chandler was quite a bit better than Dedmon last year and has a game that suits perimeter players given that he stays low and taps out a lot of offensive boards. He's also better defensively sand played quite well with Harden.
But Dedmon would be my second choice and could have a bounce-back year from last season.

I honestly didn't watch much of Chandler last year so I'll take your word for it.

Re: How would you fill out the roster?
I still maintain what I said few days ago. We should take a look at Dedmon or maybe consider someone like Whiteside (yes, I'm aware that he can be a locker room problem). I would use Dinwiddie's contract to find a center but problem is that there are barely any options in that salary range that could be available. But either way, addressing center is priority #1, and then we can look at a 4/small 5 option like Ilyasova (who has been working out and seems to be waiting to be signed by a team). Then I would save the last roster spot for the buyout market where I'd look to get Ariza.
Edit: FWIW, LMA might be a buyout candidate. Poor play this season and he's in the last year of his deal.

I can't imagine many teams will opt for buyouts unless tanking this year, Whiteside is a possibility though.
I don't think trading Din is an option unless it's to take on a bloated contract for another player.

Re: How would you fill out the roster?
Well buyouts usually happen in a situation where a veteran player wants to leave a lotto/non competitive team to join a contender. So it isn't too much about what teams want. Ariza buyout makes perfect sense because he hasn't even reported to them, he doesn't seem to have any interest in playing for Thunder, and he's owed quite a bit of salary. So the buyout is in team's favor there as well. As for LMA, we know that he has wanted to leave Spurs in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised if he wants out and asks for a buyout.zimpy27 wrote:DarkXaero wrote:I still maintain what I said few days ago. And yeah, I meant using Dinwiddie as a contract to take on multi year salary (since it would essentially work as a salary dump).

I guess he doesn’t care about winning, because that’s what needs to be done.
