The Jazz early season returns - what is really going on?

Post#1 » by MTJazzv3 » Fri Jan 8, 2021 6:46 pm

Its been discussed elsewhere, but what do you think is REALLY going on with the Jeckkyll and Hyde team we've seen so far? Not unlike past seasons, the Jazz appear completely unengaged every other night. The team maturity, continuity and player integration really should have eliminated this pattern. It isn't about the player talent. Are guys just unfocused with the epic hangover from last year and ongoing pandemic and cultural chaos? This year's model looks completely capable of blowing a 3-1 lead in the first round again.

Thoughts?

I mean the short answer is they are chumps right now. Particularly Mitchell and Bogey. I have faith they'll figure it out....Mitchell has started every season of his career slow before going on a tear and Bogey has the wrist issue....but its affecting the whole team. So yeah...hope we get better but right now we are a bunch of chumps that got paid in the offseason and are playing like cupcakes.

Wake up Jazz!

I don't think there is a big mystery. Last season's Jazz was a "Jekyll and Hyde team," as the OP put it, and we kept almost all the players, the system, and the coach. Why should we expect different results?

Neither of our stars have played particularly well with Mitchell looking terrible most nights. Then you add in Bogey and you have a recipe for mediocre. Top that off with poor coaching and you have a team that is painful to watch right now. The good news is that it should get better. Bogey is too good of a shooter not to snap out of this and the same goes for Mitchell.

This...... Jazz have started slowly the last couple of seasons, and then turn it on....... But I wonder if this season that's just not going to happen?

Part of the problem is that the Jazz now rely too much on the three-point shot....... If the shot is not going in, there's no plan B...... Makes me long for the days of Sloan and his foolproof system......

I think the Jazz will get better, and some players will get out of their shooting slumps. The Jazz will win a respectful amount of games in the regular season and we'll forget all about this start, which is not the end of the world btw, but I just don't think they'll go far in the playoffs.

I think they need a 3&D wing, I still wonder how Ingles is in the locker room coming off the bench, he doesn’t play well and is usually a mental midget off the bench.
Ingles is cooked.

If you look at nba standings, there's a lot of jeckyll and mr hide teams. A lot of strange losses and wins. A lot of blowouts. This is a strange season.

This version of the Jazz is what all of us have been preaching for a decade+ wanted. A team shooting a ton of 3’s with a transition offense that’s actually efficient and a good defensive presence.

I say all that to ask.....

What realistic trade would you make at this point? I’m only trading a player if the trade results in a player coming back who also shoots a high 38%+ percentage on the 3 ball and is better on defense than a player we send out. Can you guys name a realistic trade candidate we should/could go after? At this rate I don’t see the Jazz making a trade.

Maybe Grant, but the Pistons will want too much.

CBS has Jazz at #1 in their power rankings.
ESPN and NBA have them at #4.
This must be the last time since 1999 the Jazz have ranked #1 on a power rankings board? Exciting season!!!

As a side note, I saw the last game had 0 fans in attendance on nba.com, did the jazz stop having fans?

A 1st?
Salaries would have to match and the only ones that come close are Royce and Ingles.

I’d pass on trading either of those guys.

I might consider Ingles straight up but I can't imagine the cavs would have any interest in that.
