What can Wayne Ellington get?
$2.5 million - 1 year contract.
Last 10 games hes shooting 52% from 3point range. Scoring more than 10 points a game. Defense is still pretty good, not a negative.
Can he only get a 2nd round pick?
Where does he go and what can he get?
Celtics - Tatum is out for now, Kemba is still playing himself back in shape, their backup PG Pritchard who made Hayes look like a middle schooler is out with injury. They could use a shooter.
GSW - They can use someone to hit shots instead of Oubre shooting 1/30 on 3s like he did to start the season.
EDIT
I think this is where we can all grade Weaver. What does he get for Ellington, DRose, both expiring contracts.

Ellington is only getting us a 2nd round pick.
Pretty much any playoff team can use another cheap shooter to come off the bench.

2nds can be bought so I'd rather not trade a valuable vet just for the sake of it.
IF a contender had a TPE or a prospect that's different story but I don't think getting back a pick between 50 and 60 is all that valuable.

He is the perfect trade sweetener when your going for a midsized whale. He is going to be more valuable in a trade then the 2nd round pick you'll get for him.

Valuable to who? Us? How so? I can't think of one reason to play him one more minute here.

Nothing. The answer is nothing. A few hot shooting games doesn't change his value.

You're right, but hopefully the Pistons aren't looking to go out and get that midsized whale. I'd be happy for them to take a 2nd or two and be done with it. Get Wayne somewhere where his shooting can actually help a winning team.

We lack depth at guard, we lack shooters too. And from all reports he's a real pro.
I'm all for playing kids more minutes but you don't just trade a guy like that - on a expiring contract - in order to get a late 2nd round pick.

Remember when we traded Reggie Bullock and we netted a 2nd rounder and SVI. Bullock was a younger player and better defender. I'd say that type of package is the ceiling.

We have SVI whos a younger Ellington. Clearly Ellington is better then SVI but its not like we need Wayne to tank.
We don't need anymore "real pros". We already have Blake. Hell we get Drose too.

Re: What can Wayne Ellington get?
Wow!
So you'd trade away Ellington for a pick in the 50-60 range?
I'm happy you're not the GM

Wayne isn't needed for the tank but IF we plan on keeping Svi long term I'd be hoping Ellington can show him some stuff every single day that will help.

A 2nd rounder AND a prospect? Cool - I'm down for that.

Re: What can Wayne Ellington get?
If Wayne can stay hot over the next couple weeks, with the number of injuries piling up elsewhere, a second round pick and a prospect are a real possibility.

Re: What can Wayne Ellington get?
Because he was signed to a one year deal we can't trade him unless he approves the deal.
If it would have been a deal with a 2nd year not guaranteed we could have traded him to a destination of our choice. Perhaps he wouldn't go for that type of contract, or perhaps Weaver didn't ever think of him as a possible trade piece.

Not even that most likely. Playoff teams know players at that level can be had on the waiver wire.
We got nothing for Markeiff in a similar situation.
A hot streak from a known entity like Ellington doesn’t really up his value.

Re: What can Wayne Ellington get?
As I mentioned in a different thread a couple days ago, we need to keep in mind that Ellington is on a minimum contract which means that he was available to all 30 NBA teams at that price. We also need to remember that last year Ellington signed with the mighty Knicks as a free agent. In addition when he was bought out midway through the 18-19 season, he signed with Detroit.
All this lead me to believe, that Ellington just isn't all that highly regarded around the league. As Bill mentioned, a couple of hot shooting games isn't going to swing the needle on him.
On a related note, I remember when a lot of people were excited with the Rose and Markieff Morris signings in that they could be parlayed into trade bait. Again, there was a reason why Detroit was able to sign Rose to less than full MLE $ and Morris to BAE $. We've yet to see a solid trade market develop for Rose, and Morris ended up getting bought out. When Detroit signs vets to cheap deals, the smart money says that they didn't have a whole lot of other options to pivot to.
All that said, if you can get anything resembling an asset for Ellington, you'd be a fool not to move him. A team firmly in the conversation for being the worst in the league, should not be concerning themselves with shooting or "lack of depth." Besides all of Josh Jackson/Bey/Svi/or even McGruder and Sirvydis can plug whatever "depth holes" would be made by moving Ellington. Even if you are are insisting on worrying about shooting or "veteran presence" just sign a Kyle Korver/Jamal Crawford/Joe Johnson type after moving Ellington.
Moving Ellington would be opening up minutes for Jackson/Svi/Bey. Yet, we're trying to bring depth concerns into this equation?
