Forget the contract (which now looks team friendly); I remember when people were questioning Ainge for taking Brown over Kris Dunn.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?
Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

In comparison to Tobias and Middleton it seems now he is underpaid by about 60 mil, which is quite a leap.

Except for when Middlton plays the Celtics - then he's a super-max salary kind of guy!

For what it's worth a lot of that was because Kris Dunn was supposed to the pick for a rumor Bulls trade for Jimmy Butler.
It didn't happen but I know a number of people during that draft wanted Dunn due to that reason.

This is bully/abuser logic. We're going to hate on you constantly every chance we get, and when you chirp back, it's proof you deserve the hate. I believe you're reversing cause and effect.
Here's my theory (and I hope, if you actually read it, you will see that it's not purely defensive/reactionary; I really think the cause-and-effect makes sense):
Over the past several seasons, a number of fanbases have had a top tier player leave their team. That's a sensitive event, that always frays folk's nerves. This is totally understandable. I don't blame them one bit for those emotions.
In each case, Ainge and the Celtics have been connected as an interested party to acquire the player. Some of these conversations may have gone pretty deep, while others may have been pretty superficial. The other team, understandably, always wanted one or both of Tatum or Brown (or, far enough back: the BRK picks that became them), and we weren't willing to part with them. As Tatum and Brown have continued to ascend (or, far enough back: as the BRK picks came in at high slots), those fanbases became resentful that we weren't willing to part with them, and so attempted, whether consciously or simply reacting instinctively, to make us "regret it", by pushing the "lol Ainge overvaluing his assets and screwing himself" narrative every chance they got. Misery loves company, and if you're not happy with the fate of your franchise, you can take your mind off of it by making others feel bad as well. This is very human.
Once it had some legs, with every passing big-name trade we failed to get in on, the myth and legend only grew, until it became an instant and-1 factory to parrot, not only here, but on the T&T board, and the Wiretaps as well (I've honestly never seen wiretap posts getting any real amount of and-1's before, except for those LOL'ing at Ainge). At this point, it is simply known that Ainge is a snake who constantly screws himself. No doubt remains on this point among the RealGM hive mind. Some of these posts literally get almost 100 and-1s, just for parroting the talking point, regardless of evidence or context. See: the first couple pages of this thread.
It's gotten so ridiculous and over-the-top, that Celtic fans are now very vocal about pointing it out. And when we do that, posters like you blame us for bringing it on ourselves. And so the cycle continues.
So what I will say in closing is this: the next time you see a post that says something like "lol Ainge screwed himself again" and it has 75 and-1s, and you're about to click to add the 76th, consider the fact that the majority of the Celtic fanbase is very happy with where we're sitting right now. And the next time a Celtic poster points out the ridiculousness and laziness of the narrative, and holds people to their awful takes when they turn out to be awful, consider if you wouldn't have had the same urge if the roles were reversed.
Another point to add to this (which you did a great job of explaining!). Is the fact the Boston actually did too good, too quick. What I mean is that by Tatum's rookie year, Boston was already looking like they were in a position to win it all. Now, as nice as that may be, the truth is that Tatum and Brown are more of Boston's future, then they are of "we need to win it all right now". So, whenever a big name player became available, everybody thought that Boston needed to trade for them, or else it was an epic fail on their part. I believe Ainge's plan all along has been to build his future around both Tatum and Brown, and therefor was never willing to part with either of them, no matter how much pressure he got from everybody else. When Ainge signed Brown, I think he knew exactly what he was doing. I'm so glad that he didn't listen to all the voices around him saying "Trade Brown" for a one year rental. Ainge knew what Brown was worth, and he gladly paid him - to give Boston a great future.
I don't see the Celtics winning it all this year (hey, i would love to be proven wrong), but I do see them in the next couple of years, when the Jays are even better, being the team to win it all. If missing out on one year rentals is the price of that, then so be it.

Definitely an underpay in comparison to some of the other contracts given out recently; however, bumping a thread 15 months old for some revenge "ha-ha's" at posters, I included, for not having a crystal ball that can tell the future is...questionable--especially after only 16 games played into a new season.
Can you guys at least get out of the East first?

This is a good point too. For years, folks have been saying things like, "Enough trying to win now and later, pick a direction." And, not just non-Celtic fans - it was a big discussion topic on our board too.
In my opinion, if you'd been paying close attention, it would have been obvious that we did pick a direction. A while ago. Aside from Kyrie, the only big name players we ever brought in were FAs - Horford, Hayward, and Kemba - where there was literally massive opportunity cost to not signing them, since you lose the ability to spend the money after finishing off the rest of your exception-based signings and giving your QO guys their raises. Every single time there was an opportunity to bring in a big name for a real, painful price, we declined, and kept our guys.
The one big counter-example was Kyrie. That was the one time the FO succumbed to the pressure to try to win now, giving up IT and the pick that became Sexton to do it. The value there seemed to make sense, since IT didn't feel like part of the long term plan. In hindsight, we probably would have actually been better off to "overvalue our assets" then too, and keep that pick. (By the way, a lot of us, who were more inclined towards the long view, were not just acting cocky when we were daring Cleveland to void the trade. In hindsight, I wish they had.)

You have absolutely won this thread and potentially the General Board. I have been wanting to say something like this for awhile, but there is no chance in hell I could've written it so pertinently and calculated. Well done sir.

What does this have to do with getting out the East. The mere fact he's been to 3 conference finals in his first 4 seasons should show that his contract was worth it at the time. Name me any other player that's done that recently or ever.
The bump is because every one hates on the Celtics and in particular Danny Ainge for not trading for rentals of Kawhi/PG. Why can't we bump threads to show which posters are just haters? Why should we just sit back and take hate daily?
Maybe if we bumped old threads more consistently, we'd see a pattern emerging of the bad posters and obvious trolls. It might make some people actually think about what they're typing before hitting that submit button.

Eh...I somewhat get it...but a few things...
1) Not everyone hates the Celtics, and not every disagreement should be considered hate. Granted, there will always be some haters, but the reality is we're debating sports; it comes with the territory.
2) Consistently bumping old threads every time a poster is wrong about an old take is extremely excessive and silly, and for obvious reasons IMO.
3) Playing devil's advocate: It's early enough in the season (and Jaylen's contract) to provide trolls ample opportunities to hate every time the Celtics, or Jaylen, "fails." Again, back-and-forth bumping devalues the quality of any real discussion.
4) Unfortunately, nothing will make haters think twice about hitting the submit button.
Again, I was one of the posters wrong in my initial take. But just know that I will lock this thread if it's bumped to target Celtic fans in the future at inopportune moments (e.g., not making it out of the East).
Note: These thoughts are my own and won't prevent another mod from locking this bump from 2019 if they feel so inclined.

I didn't bump the thread to get a "ha-ha" out of people who don't have a crystal ball. I did it to make fun of the people who did pretend to have a crystal ball, and danced on the Celtics grave as usual.
"I don't think Jaylen is worth 115m/4 years, but let's wait and see." --> Okay response
"LULLLL ANDREW WIGGINS 2.0, SHOULD'VE TRADED HIM FOR KAWHI LUUUUUUL" --> Not okay response.

Proud to be first on your list of quotes, but my post was/is not in any way toxic.
A different question:
With All-Star quality biggish wings in place, what are the Celtics looking to do to challenge the very top of the league and win a title? I think the fanbase is rightly enamored with Marcus Smart as a championship contributing role player, but what else needs to be done? I have my doubts that a team with a questionable center rotation and a defensively- (and size-) challenged PG can get it done. What's next?
