It makes sense. They have to clear that salary for the impending Fournier extension.
Orlando is flat out depressing when it comes to building funcional rosters.
Evan is very solid player. Guy shoots lights out. His TS% last 2 years is way above average, his net rating this year makes him pretty much tied with Gordon with only "almost" positive player. ( Magic net rating as a team is such a trash that it's hard to make any point how -2,2 net rating isn't bad

). In last 10 games, Evan is only player with positive net rating.
The thing is, he does what Magic lack. Comes as no suprise Cole started to playing better after Evan return. Floor spacing is name of the game last 6,7 years. Magic are way behind curve.
But Magic can't afford him, and should actively be looking for replacment that provides much needed spacing & floor spacing.
Overall if goal is to keep Fultz and Isaac and build anything substantial around them, adding plus shooters and ballhandlers is pretty much only possible outcome that could go in positive direction.
If they add to core of Fultz of Isaac guys like Cole, Okeke , Aminu, MCW ( low efficiency, low usage, or low quality in general)... That team will never pass 42 wins and first round.
If theorethical future team includes somebody like this:
PG: Fultz
SG: 15-22 ppg scorer ( positive shooter)
SF: two way wing ( hopefully star )
PF: Isaac
C: whoever workable
and off bench it's possible to switch Isaac at center at 10-15 min a game, and put another versitale ballhandler and shooter, it will be solid team ( depending again on ceiling of imaginary SGs and SFs).
But given how Magic for last 10 years ( pretty much since SVG left ) are building their teams, it's just cluster of poor fits, overlapping positions and skills that contradict and don't mesh together at all ( Payton, Oladipo, Harris, Gordon, Vuc for example never made sense whatsoever)
