He was terrible last year. Hopefully it's for nothing significant in terms of prospects

Well, Reid-Foley is the biggest name, but he would have had a hard time making the team. Diaz turned into filler, and Winckowski, has a bit of prospect capital, but would still be considered a long shot to make the team. According to MLB pipeline, Diaz was #26 in our top 30, Winchowski #27

Matz pitched poorly last season, however he's been pretty consistent over his career and typically averages close to 9k's per 9 innings. He's not a bad guy to take a shot at as a 4th/5th starter if the cost isn't high.

This looks like salary dump for the Mets...5 million, for another 4th/5th type pitcher, which we have plenty of.
Interesting gave up on SRF... Diaz was ranked 26th in our organization.

Matz is pretty garbage, gives up tons of hits and homeruns.

Seems like a good trade for both teams based on needs. Hopefully the Jays can fix Matz. I trust

I wouldn’t focus too much on 30 injury plagued innings. He’s had 2 injury prone seasons and 4 pretty good ones in between.
Odorizzi was also terrible and injury riddled last year and he’s probably the 2nd best SP left on the market. Same with Paxton. Most of the SP’s left fall into this category.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

I would say Jake was better, and has consistently been better than Matz so far. Though I'm guessing Jake or Paxon would get more than 5 mill.
Much rather take this 5 mill and say another 5-6 mill and try to sign Walker instead. Assuming we have 5-6 mill to play.
I mean how many of these type borderline 4th starters do we need, We have Roark, Sterling, etc. Now matz as well.

Too many 4s and 5s on this team... which means Toronto is going the rays route... lots of 3-4 innings out of the starter backed by 2-3 innings from the next man up... If the price is too high for a top flight pitcher, I don't mind this option.

For sure he’s better, I’m just saying thar Matz looks like a very good bet to bounce back to solid as long as he’s heathly. I don’t think that sample size isn’t worth focusing on just as with Jake. Plus Matz is paid $5 million, Jake will cost in the $40-50 ballpark.

Good in 2019. End of the rotation starter at best but decent depth option I guess.

Fangraphs doesn’t have any of them that high as of the current month, only Diaz cracks the top 39. So we might be giving up far less than it looks.

Not only that, but if the league actually ends up having a 162 game season, then teams are likely going to need more SPs than usual to get through it. Going from a 60 game season to 162 is going to be brutal on pitchers, and we will likely see innings restrictions across the league. The Jays are almost certainly going to do a lot of openers and tandem starts (ex. like Shoemaker and Ray in the playoffs) given the amount of bulk guys they have assembled.
