The New GM Search

Post#1 » by Robert23 » Wed Sep 12, 2007 4:20 am

Well as each day goes by it's clearer and clearer that there is no way Jim Hendry will keep his job with the new owners. So with him almost certain to be gone who should the new owners be looking at as the new GM? The popular choice would be Steve Stone but who else is out there?

I like Stone but I don't know that I really want him in that position...lets get some fresh blood...there has to be someone in the Red Sox or Oakland system that is looking for a GM job. I just want someone with a little more modern ideas of what it takes to build a ball club...focuses on OBP a little more...does not piss away 135 million on players like Soriano. I do like Soriano but we severely overpaid for a nice ballplayer but not a game changer...he is a far better fantasy player that real game player. Could have saved the money and went after someone like Arod this offseason...who is a true game changer.

I am not one to defend big fat lardo JH, but he made one of the best offseason snags in Lilly. People did not like this signing. But he has been our best pitcher.

DeRosa was also a great signing.

His free agents haven't been awful...his trading record is very mediocre though, and he should've been fired for the Neifi Perez/Henry Blanco extensions alone. He loves bidding against himself for mediocrity.

And I have liked how well Jason Marquis has pitched as well. He is a great 3/4/5 starting pitcher.

Floyd and especially Ward have been great bench acquisitions as well. Also, Kendall has played great for us since JH's hand was forced in dealing Barrett.

He's had his fair share of questionable moves over his tenure, but his last offseason was outstanding. Soriano may have been his worst signing, but hey, he's better than J.D. Drew.
