Re: WISEMAN EXPECTATIONS: Year 1
I honestly don't really care if Wiseman develops a post game. Sure, great if he does but he should be using his length and athleticism to face up and attack the rim off the bounce. With his physical advantages and handle he should be getting to the line 5+ times per 36 and fouling out opposing bigs. Much more valuable than a go-to post move, imo.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

Seriously go from a couple weeks with Hakeem, and follow it up with David Robinson for a few weeks after.
It should be for more than just the Dream Shake. Olajuwon actually has held a big man's camp in 2006 and has worked with players such as LeBron (who flew to Houston to specifically work with Hakeem), Omer Asik, JaVale McGee, Amare Stoudamire, Carmelo Anthony, and Kenneth Faried. None of them ever displayed a true Dream Shake, so I assume Hakeem worked with them on other aspects of low post play. Wiseman could benefit from learning from someone who has actual experience teaching others; teaching is a separate skill from just knowing how to do something yourself. But Hakeem now runs a camp for 11-16 year old kids in England so I'm not sure if he is still interested in mentoring centers.
They could also hire Kareem, whom the Lakers hired to specifically work with Andrew Bynum after the Lakers took him with the 10th overall pick in 2005. He also worked with Dwight Howard during his Lakers days.
I am not aware of DRob being hired to mentor/teach any bigs after he retired, but if he did, then that might be worthwhile as well. In the interest of time for those that want to "win now", I'd just stay away from mentors that have not actually mentored anyone.
Of course I'd want Wiseman to learn more than the Dream Shake, smh

Not sure if we see much of the JW and Ayton match up if Wiseman comes off the bench. It would normally be a perfect matchup for Kerr to go to, but they seem to be in s different spce right now with Looney and Wiseman.

Kerr inserted Wiseman pretty early in the 1st quarter last night, I think they will see some head to head action.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wiseman starts tonight. Kerr has always liked matchup coaching. Ayton is too big for Looney.

I here you, but it seems like they might go with this for a bit since the original idea was to jump start first quarters.

Re: WISEMAN EXPECTATIONS: Year 1
Ayton is bigger than Looney but he plays soft. Wiseman is definitely the better matchup but I just finished watching Ayton get dominated by 34 year old undersized 5 Al Horford, who is roughly Looney's size.xdrta+ wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if Wiseman starts tonight. If you can stop his initial move in the post he goes back into his shell.

Obviously. The point is that no one else has ever been able to really duplicate that. None of the pros mentioned above who learned from Hakeem were able to replicate that move and several, such as LeBron and Carmelo, are gifted offensive players themselves. So there can be benefit in bringing in a Hakeem or Kareem to work with Wiseman even if he doesn't learn how to do the Dream Shake or the Sky Hook.

He already uses a hook shot. Whether it will become a great go-to move or not remains to be seen.

The issue is whether he can be productive in the playoffs.
Will he get hunted and be played off the court? He may have difficulties staying with talented perimeter payers but in the paint he has to really shut down shots by guards and most forwards.
Can he shoot FTs at high enough percentage that he won't be fouled to prevent dunks?
He has to continue to improve on rebounding, show he's capable of 20-rebound games.

I don't know that the last one is absolutely necessary. In the 5 years the Warriors dominated the league they never had a player who could get 20 rebounds a game.

Re: WISEMAN EXPECTATIONS: Year 1
Yeah and as he matures he'll add muscle and improve with stuff like rebounding in traffic and finishing through contact. He has the frame to add a good amount of muscle.xdrta+ wrote:wco81 wrote:whatisacenter wrote:

With the shortened season and everything, else, I just don't see wiseman being super impactful in the POs right now. I'll be happy with good efficiency and him gaining some experience. Its hard to realistically see them going far without klay.

Spot on. It’s absolutely not necessary or even important. He needs to have a net positive impact on team rebounding stats, but hitting some arbitrary counting stats threshold doesn’t matter. If he can occupy and diminish opposing lead rebounders that could have the same impact on winning without JW actually being the guy to grab all the Troy Murphy offensive rebounds or David Lee memorial uncontested FT rebounds.

And really.....are we spoiled or friggin what....
He shoots the three....
He can face up for the mid range....
He runs like a deer...finishes with a one handed Dr J like dunk with the right....then the left hand.
And we still question if he'll be a franchise center....lol

Re: WISEMAN EXPECTATIONS: Year 1
Really pleased with his progress. It's still a 3 steps forward, 2 steps back kind of thing but you can see progress in there. When he gets used to the speed, gets a little respect from the refs, and gets a little more confident/fanster with his moves, he's gonna be such a beast. Probably not quite the rebounding and rim protection monster I envisioned, but a much more complete and dangerous player.
Basically I think he may be slightly worse defensively than I thought but a lot better offensively.

Re: WISEMAN EXPECTATIONS: Year 1
The positive that has stood out recently is offensive rebounding. He is getting multiple offensive rebounds a game now, which is an improvement from the start of the season. To me it shows that the game is slowing down a little bit for him and he is more often getting into positions to succeed on the floor.
