With all that said, Embiid is definitely the top choice right now. Top seed in the conference and he’s been a beast.

Do the refs get to hold the trophy with Embiid if he wins it ?
Only seems fair with the ridiculous calls he gets.

Embiid is the front runner for sure. Having an absolutely dominant season on both ends of the floor.

Embiid is massive. He honestly should probably go to the line even more. It was the same deal with Shaq. Some guys are so big that you have no choice but to be really physical with them and alot of times that leads to fouls.

It's been embiid for me so far, and if philly keeps it up, it's obvious.
KD and lebron are not going to be mvp due to teammates, individual stats (both will have below avg stats), and record. The lakers and nets won't be clear 1 seeds five games above everyone else, even with their clear talent advantage.

They ofc will be in the race with the rest of the pack.

Embiid MVP is at +1,000 betting odds. I think it would be foolish not to take that bet right now.

Kawhi deserves it.

PHI is 2-2 against the West; LAC is 4-1 against the East. Those numbers are indicative of what these two are dealing with on a night to night basis. Clips play in the harder conference, and still have a .750 win percentage, to the Sixers' .700.

Embiid could only manage a measly +21 tonight against the Timberwolves, while Kawhi was +23 against the stalwart Orlando Magic.

bbref's MVP Tracker agrees with me, giving Kawhi a 13.1% chance going into tonight's action, compared to an underwhelming 12.4% chance for Embiid.

Kawhi is 2nd in WS. Embiid? Down at the 3rd spot.

Kawhi is 8th in VORP. Embiid? Down at the 9th spot.

All of that is before tonight, of course, but... Embiid took 18 free throws tonight! James Harden!

Kawhi deserves it, and the radio silence on his dominant campaign is a blight on the sports media landscape that will remain either forever or until it is corrected in the MVP voting at season's end.

So far, anyway; we're only like a fourth of the way through the season.

Has Kawhi even clearly been his team's best player this season?

It was PG earlier on in the season but Kawhi is slowly but surely eclipsing him now.

Embiid didn't play in either of the losses to the West (contact tracing). Embiid is 14-2 on the season.

The guys who have chances are:
Embiid
Jokic
Kawhi
Kd
Giannis
PG
Lebron

1) Jokic (would rank 2th but hasn't missed a game)
2) Embiid (missed 4 games)
3) Lebron
4) Kawhi (missed 4 games)
5) Giannis (no improvements, underwhelming team record)
6) KD (missed 6 games, bad team record for how stacked they are)
7) PG (missed 3 games)

I think the number of games will be less of factor this year due to the pandemic. It is hard to hold it against someone that he got ill or that some of his teammates/opponents got ill and he was not allowed to play.

Embiid has finally gotten it. I don’t think it’s a matter of getting post position deeper. He’s attacking the rim much earlier with his dribble. Sixers have a lot better spacing this season. He’s not giving teams the opportunity to “cheat in” like last season.

Teams are in a reactive position when Embiid does this and have to foul him. Or get out of his way. They choose to foul him. Which isn’t a good idea cause it puts sixers in bonus earlier and Embiid is making his usual 80% from free throw line.

While Embiid isn’t Shaq. And never will be. If shaq had only learn to shoot free throws at a 70% clip. The Lakers would have 6 titles with shaq.

He is definitely more aggressive this year driving towards the basket. However I still for the life of me don't understand why he insists on posting up fifteen feet away from the hoop. Get your ass on the block big man! Nobody can stop you down there.

His free throw shooting is huge.

Doc has embiid and Philly playing great ball right now. I can see Joel being the top MVP candidate. Heck doc is putting Harris in positions to shine again.

Embiid is not going to win because Philly won't even be top 3 in the East by the time the season ends.

^ I think what they are doing is sustainable. If the coach was still Brett Brown I would agree with you.

They will finish 1st or 2nd. And KD cant win mvp with 2 other superstars and the best big 3 ever. So embiid is only competing against western conf folks for mvp.

If he stays healthy he has a good shot.

Media is piping it in non stop for Lebron. But he is clearly not the best candidate. Will be interesting to follow.
