Still bum
what you mean is "still rookie". rookie with no real training camp and coming back from injury. any declaration on what this kid could be cant be taken seriously
Context.
Arrived at NCAA as top 3 prospect according to inflated, and kind a shady highschool stats, jumping schools and being groomed for nba since he was 14.
Played like complete crap at college. Gets hurt. Plays bit better after. Still very bad.
Draft rolls. Goes outside lottery, to Orlando Magic.
Not a single rookie had summer league , not that it really matters, as it's 2-5 games of playing against non nba talents working part time with nba coaches. Hardly anything to learn from. Tyus Jones, Glen Rice Jr and Josh Hart, 3 SL MVPs just prove how little value there is in it.
Short preseason. Short for everybody.
Gets some PT as backup. Looks like crap. Gets promoted to starter job because if incompetence of Weltman. 20 games in, still sucks.
Last time Cole Anthony was close to "good" compared to competition, he was in highschool ,2 and half years ago.
Even among rookies, he comes off as flat out bad

I'm not even comparing him to nba starters, but rookies.
He he is 19 among 31 rookies that played by PER.
He is 28th among 31 rookies that played in efficiency.
Once again, take a look yourself
http://insider.espn.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/rookies/sort/VORPeEven if you remove everybody from rookies that are PGs from his class, he still comes off as well below many of them. It's no secret that Lamelo, Haliburton, Quickley flat out do more. Maxey had 1 phenomenal game even by nba allstars level and few solid ones.
Theo Maledon shoots higher percentage of 3s ( 37,7% ) than Cole overall... You can't even make those stuff up.
Payton Prichard is couple of light years ahead of him when it comes to actually running offense.
So who he actually outperformes ? Kilian Hayes ( hurt for weeks now , after 7 games), Kira Lewis ( buried in rotation behind Bledsoe, Hart, Lonzo), Tyler Terry and Flynn ( both buried in rotation and never play).
We can spin this up all day, it will always come off as same: We start him because we intentionally or unintientionally tanking. He is negative contributor for offense and defense and flat out disaster when he shoots.
He shoots 30% in situations where nobody is even near him, and they ( 18 of 22) make vast majority of 3s he made. So he provides no spacing whatsoever.
And when you put even more perspective to it, he is 6'1 shooter who is pretty damn awful at running offense ( not ready, or flat out untalented to do so, wasn't even able to run college simplistic offense). His ceiling becomes very, very narrow one. Pretty much we are grooming very bad version of DJ Augustin, one without advanced floor vision and jumpshot. So, basically, Ish Smith
