Re: Bears 2019/20; George McCaskey is on the clock
The Bears are just plain screwed. GM and HC are on the hottest of hot seats. Must win now. Don't have a QB. League revenues are down which will depress cap space. Makes it hard to sign a "Save the Franchise" type QB. They have the 20th pick which is not where you want to be picking if you need a QB who is "Save the Franchise" ready. Yeah, they made this bed, but it's gonna be really hard to sleep in.
Until the actual truth is more important to you than what you believe, you will never recognize the truth.

one QB domino falls. I think the Rams just got much better in the short term. The Rams gave up a haul though. Good deal for the Lions long term.

2 future firsts and a third and Goff for Stafford?
Lol we can forget Watson if that was the cost for the 33 year old Stafford. Holy crap.

Re: Bears 2019/20; George McCaskey is on the clock
Spoiler:
Rams got fleeced. I'd put Stafford on that upper echelon. "Good", not "Great", but that's way too rich for me. I guess they figure this is their window, so they'd rather see what they can do with a good QB, rather than being tied to an average one while their window is still open, but wow.

the picks were in part to offset goff's salary. i think goff is considered more liability than asset at the price he's being paid. it is still a lot to give up, though. is stafford really that much better?

That’s because they took on Goff’s contract.

I think Bears best option will be to trade up to 10ish and get Trey Lance or Fields. Probably cost next years 1st.
Once Watson goes there won’t be a vet that will be elite.

Re: Bears 2019/20; George McCaskey is on the clock
Strongly disagree with that. They were not going to do anything with those picks and their team is in win now mode. If anything they gave the Bears the blueprint on working around cap restraints. They gave up those 1sts due to how much Goff costs. The GM even said as much, they were getting rid of Goff.

That’s part of it, but I can’t recall a single 1st rounder being traded to salary dump in the NFL. And Goff is mediocre, but not a complete bust. So to me, the 3rd was close to that salary offset. So roughly 2 1sts for Stafford?

Goff's contract is that large. It's a proper price to pay.

If this is true you got to pony up and make a run.
Don’t know that Jets and Fins have the def waive players to make the trade work of this is what the Texans really want.

Saw a trade suggested where the Dolphins give up the 3 pick, Tua, and a couple more picks for Watson. Bears give up their 2020 pick, a couple of 3rds and get Tua. Houston gets all the picks.
I kind of like it as I like Tua a lot.

cap hits:
2021 goff $27.8 stafford $20
2022 goff $25.5 stafford $23
2023 goff $25
2024 goff $26
PFF QB ratings:
2020 stafford 82.0 goff 71.4 trubisky 62.0
2019 stafford 82.6 goff 72.4 trubisky 64.3
2018 stafford 77.8 goff 85.5 trubisky 63.0
2017 stafford 78.6 goff 73.7 trubisky 66.4
2016 stafford 81.6
2015 stafford 65.7
2014 stafford 69.0
2013 stafford 80.1
2012 stafford 73.6
2011 stafford 73.3
will goff's contract be particularly unreasonable 3-4 years from now? unless he turns into a bust, doubt it. his career has coincidentally gotten off to a similar start to that of stafford. stafford had one standout season in his first 5, goff has had one in his first 4
i would say that the 3rd rounder offsets the salary differential for the next 2 seasons, while the 1st rounder offsets the talent differential. that extra 1st rounder only really makes sense if you don't like the idea of paying goff in 2023 and 2024

Yup, the Rams made the mistake with Goff that the Bears didn't make with Trubisky. The Lions gave the Rams a more competent QB and made their Goff mistake go away...kinda. First round picks are valuable and as the Bears have learned, trading high picks makes it hard to fill needs at reasonable cost.

I’m not a fan of Tia at all. Think he will be injured a lot the way he plays.
If we don’t get Watson... I don’t want Carr or Minshew.
Sign Winston and let him fling it around. He will get picked a lot but we will score a lot and who knows how he does w a defense and real running game.

No. For a top 5 QB who is 25.
Until you get a top QB it doesn’t matter what you have. All the top QBs are the ones in the post season every year.

He’s not a top 5 QB. And that’s my problem with all of the hype.
And before you ask, Mahomes, Jackson, Rodgers, Wilson, Rosen without having to think all that hard.
